Clive Brown's name pops up now and again. He is clearly revered. Very little info out there.

Oh 100% 😂 Si

Totally agree. I wouldn’t buy a refin either, but it seems people do and at least this one comes with provenance and a huge amount of evidence to support it, not like some of the junk out there.
-
You consider 9 lbs 1 oz to be a "bit of a boat anchor"?? I would have thought that was pretty damn good for an old Fender.
-
Would be a bit of a boat anchor for me, plus still a bit pricey for a refin with the infill - in my humble opinion of course.

This is sort of my specialist nerd subject. Basically, it's quite a collectable bass - Japanese instruments from the 70s & 80s are sought after, yours dates from between 1984 & 1987 and was made by one of Japan's most respeted factories, Fujigen Gakki. Despite Squier being a budget brand, it's a very high quality bass. The fact you've had it since '95 and haven't played it means it's almost certainly in original condition & that's important in vintage instruments - it's 40-ish years old so that's what the market considers it to be. Condition looks pretty good, with a few cosmetic knocks & chips, and it probably doesn't have a great deal of play wear. I did a search to see if I could find any examples for sale or sold - there weren't many but what was interesting was that those that did appear (a couple were in Japan) seemed to be 32" scale. That's not a standard scale length for a Precision bass, which is typically a standard 34" scale. The scale length is the open-string distance between the fixed points (bridge & nut) at either end - it would be useful to know which yours is, as a 32" is uncommon & may make it more interesting to purchasers. Do bear in mind that if you hang around here, you may end up remembering just how cool the bass is as an instrument, & decide to start playing again. If you do - that's a pretty damn good bass you've got there. Might be a shame to flog it. 😎

Curious, how much AI went into making that image? 😉
-
It will be an interesting case if it happens - I think for now it's probably quite safe to purchase the IP as if a case like this happens the companies selling the AI music creation will have far more to lose than any individual so are far more likely to defend their business plan.

I did come across a fretted one that had twin WALBUCKERS fitted and a filtered EQ pre-amp system similar to WAL system and that bass sounded absolutely gorgeous. Bass Direct have it shown but OUT OF STOCK but you can get them fitted with other Humbucker style pick ups and John East pre-amps so i'm guessing they are a custom order thing. Pic below taken from Bass Direct site and VID below that on Youtube. Dave -

So the walnut jazz bass has been started. The knot in the next pocket is a pain but I am going to fill it with black epoxy and make a feature of it. This one is my own shape with a short top horn and a few mm shorter body length that is less curved across the bottom. It will be hand oil sanded and I might put a few coats of gloss nitro clear coat over the oil when it’s cured. I think it might be a stunner!

Yep that's what we generally do Daryl. We recently added 48 Crash by Suzie Quatro, Mamma Mia by ABBA and reintroduced Jeepster by T.Rex and Cum on Feel the Noise by Slade which we dropped 4 or 5 yrs back but decided to give them another go. Lynn now sings the Slade song and the ABBA songs we do. 48 Crash turned out to be the more difficult one to get right because of the mid section but we eventually got it right on the 2nd gig 😂. We generally try to make a rehearsal a Sun afternoon for 6hrs and bring sandwiches, coffee and of course cake and just feels more like a get together with mates. We normally finish at 5hr mark but studios are almost always 3hr slots but it makes everything a lot less hectic trying to fit a full song list into 3 hrs. With 6hrs we know we can easily slot in new songs and every song we have in our repertoire as some don't get played regularly as we change the sets to suit type of venues. Clubs prefer dancing songs while music venues prefer the rockier type songs or ones like Ziggy Stardust that isn't a very dancing song. I practice the full song list at least once a week at home anyways sometimes twice. Was hard work when i was doing the punk band and the 80's rock band at same time. At 65 i decided it was all too much and dropped it back to our Glam band and its been a good decision. Dave -
Quite a nice bit of wood on that fretboard as well.
