Agreed. There’s so much junk on the vintage market. This seems a genuinely really well cared for bass and the sort of thing a collector would want in their collection.

Pretty much what @Woodinblack said. He mainly used the 62 sunburst Jazz that he bought as a teenager, but he also had a red jazz bass, a 50s precision and a fretless P bass. Towards the end of Zeppelin he had an 8 string Hagström and an Alembic. Post Zep, he generally used Manson basses, although I have seen him playing a more recent sunburst Fender Jazz. https://www.guitarworld.com/features/the-10-most-famous-bass-guitars-of-led-zeppelins-john-paul-jones Now that's a bit of a sore point! A couple of us have been on about that for ages, and it is one thing that is definitely stopping us getting more of the top gigs on the circuit. A guitar player that I play with in another band, also plays in a Police / Sting tribute who are very busy - basically some of the bigger places we play are some of the smaller gigs that they do. When they got a pretty serious agent behind them, the first thing he did was get some high quality promo videos done, which led to them getting bigger and better gigs. If you search on YouTube (and I would rather you didn't), you get all sorts of cr*p come up, mostly with a different singer and before I was in the band. The best of a bad lot is probably this clip that a punter did on a phone at the excellent Cluny in Newcastle (not too bad for a video on a mobile). This was the first gig that Didge (keys player) did with us, but he's hardly featured on the clip for some reason.

I would order one of the alder body Z7`s if I could be sure of the weight but in the meantime I have ordered a new strap from Pinegrove leather to see if that helps. I hope so as I really like the bass, the spec for the price is outstanding.

Behringer has good designs, if not original, so for the most part they work well. But they keep the cost down by using cheap hardware.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

Our guitarist used to use Marshall stacks with various distortion etc pedals before joining us. He was using a Freidman 50W all valve amp into a Freidman 212 cab with a few pedals maybe 5 or 6. He then upgraded his amp to the Freidman 100W at a cost of £4k and his pedal board now consists of his Shure wireless, distortion/ boost pedal for solos and a delay of some kind. All the other effects he used to have are now built into the amp but what a great on stage tone he gets compared to his 50W Amp that i regularly found a bit boomy. The new amp has a much more even tone across his range. Amazing the difference between a 50W & 100W head. I guess you get what you pay for. Have to say he gets no noise between songs now either. He generally uses Gibson Flying V and Les Paul and occasionally brings a Strat. Dave -

Yup. A very busy music pub. Apparently we were so loud they got their entertainment licence revoked by the local authority. So really nobody got asked back. That was back in 1993 iirc.

I think sometimes it's a matter of poor follow up from whoever does the bands bookings. I always felt that if the owners or whoever books the bands for the venue are present during the gig you should attempt to book another date with them at the end of the gig. I don't think you wait for the venue to contact you. Daryl

Has your band ever played a really nice venue, with a good crowd, lot's of dancing and the pub cash registers busy but your band was never asked back. There could be a lot of reasons. Share your thoughts or stories. Daryl
