  2. I really am rather fond of this.
  3. Hi all We Have been left a double bass when a friend passed away. It is in need of some serious repair work but I know little about where to take it or indeed if it’s worth repairing. We think it’s either German or French and Victorian. Is there anyone who could advise us?
  4. I’m attempting Gravity John Mayer, it’s a tricky little one isn’t it
  5. May II seek a little knowledge from seasoned DOD Meatbox users please. I just bought a brand new DOD Meatbox. First thing I do is match the volume & timbre of the affected signal (effect on), to that of the unaffected clean tone (effect off). Playing through a Trace AH350SMX I've had new since the early 1990's (onboard effects off / flat). Octave & Sub knobs fully CCW, Output at 2pm, Low at 3:30pm. Volume match exactly, timbre not quite but pretty good. Now to add some octave down, I bring up the Octave knob to 2pm, the octave down is heard, but the overall output volume (perceived) goes DOWN! Quite a BIT! As though the octave sucks the original signal. Is that normal? Is it the aim? Does the Output knob lset the output volume no-matter-what (regardless of other controls) thereby sucking clean tone when Octave is added? (perhaps for speaker-safety?). Some volume returns if I then bring up Sub to midday, but I don't want to on this occasion. I also find it a bit noisy. The Trace has a little hum, but significanly more with the Meatbox (which I'm powering from a Strymon Ojai with no other pedals). What's going on? Thanks
  6. I was going to make this point too. I used to have an old Park valve head which was designed for bass but was bought off me by a guitarist who reckoned it was the beat amp he'd ever played though. I assume this is why the original Fender Bassman amps are so popular with guitarists too. GLWTS

  9. Good Year for the Roses - Elvis Costello
  10. What's the internal length of the bass spaces pls?
  11. It's the closest I'm going to ever get to owning one! 😆😆
  12. Revel Revels - DB
  13. We’ll spotted 👏
  14. That's kind of interesting in itself. I've found a few photos of stingrays with tape measures on the neck showing the pickup distance from the nut, and various youtube vids with measurements. And it seems over the years they have varied in placement by a good 5-6mm. As we know from 1960/1970 jazz basses where the bridge pickup is only 9mm further back on the 1970s one even a little movement can make quite a difference.

  17. They seem like a great band, and nicely done to them for that. I must admit I'm not a fan of meet and greet for anything - music / film etc, but I can see the appeal particularly for younger fans. For me, I like the mystery of not knowing anything about them. I find it easier to just watch the performance then. Knowing the real person for me somehow diminishes the stage persona / role.
  18. Come on, it is a mass produced basic product. Before drilling, check the depth! The hole needs to be deep enough for the insert, but you should not drill to the fretboard, or through it. If the hole is not deep enough, you may remove the fretboard while tightening the insert. So hey...
  19. I'm going to rehearse this bass tomorrow evening so can give some better feedback afterwards, although I'm starting to fall just a little bit in love with it already to be honest, the action goes stupidly low and given the is very smooth and solid it rather feels like I'm playing a Modulus or Status 🤔
  20. Leap Up and Down, Wave Your Snickers in the Air — St Cecelia.
  21. I've seen him live and he sounded so good, but couldn't understand what happened there in the fretboard. Watching and hearing made my brains go crazy.
  22. I’d look to buy one from someone on Basschat or through an experienced dealer. A new bridge, set of strings and a set up can easily set you back £500 or more. Double basses look like they’re tough to play, and they are if you try and apply electric basses technique. If you learn the right technique and have a bass that’s well set up, you shouldn’t experience any pain.
