I get it. I only really pick up a bass now when I need to work out a song as my kids are learning. I had plans to get back to playing with other people for the first time since uni but never quite managed it.

Can't believe this hasn't been snapped up yet!! These are excellent basses. I've had one and also the much more expensive Music Man version. To be honest there wasn't that much difference in terms of playability and the sounds were slightly different but IMHO equally good. In fact, there are some Talkbass members who prefer the 'voice' of the SBMM. AND I think the black/tort combo really looks the business. Add to that the lightweight tuners to counterbalance the very light body weight of this one (mine was heavier)... If I had the spare cash right now I'd be buying this. GLWTS.

Last January I sold my gear and gave up. This Christmas I bought myself a new bass and tried getting back in to it but just not enjoying playing along to songs, no good at solo noodling and can't find other people to play with. I'm not happy with how I play. I think I've reached the end. Bummer

To be fair, it could be that five string is strung with a high C and the person playing it has really advanced sight reading chops and can transpose bass parts from treble clef. There are plenty of such annoying people in the world. I can think of at least one that has a YouTube channel. No doubt he would want a t shirt to that effect.

Every bass/guitar description where the seller has used this 'AI' is exactly the same... How eBay think that rolling this out will improve sales, I don't understand!

I have no first-hand experience with these but if I was buying I'd be going for a 3-pickup V2 with fewer push-button switches (looks like one bank of buttons has been replaced by a toggle-switch selector). Interestingly the V1 reviewed for Guitar Interactive by our very own Dood was missing one of the buttons when he received it - nowhere to be found in the packaging either IIRC. Bass Direct have a new black V2 discounted to £899 instead of £950. End-of-line clearance price I guess. -

Selling on my brother's bass - I think it's a Status S2 Classic, it has a carbon fibre neck and active electronics - battery isn't present so the battery area is clean. It's had a check over at a guitar shop and it's in good working order. Not sure of the value of this so happy to entertain offers, but the shop owner estimated 1600-1800. Comes with a soft guitar case.

As with all rules there are exceptions. If one uses a dust cover/dome that's of stiffer and lighter material than the cone, especially if it's bonded to the voice coil, it can act as a smaller midrange radiator, giving broader mid dispersion than the cone. That used to be fairly common with JBL, Altec, EV and other driver manufacturers. It's still used, but the downside is a pronounced midrange break up mode. With instrument speakers that can be desirable, but the more 'hi fi' oriented the driver the less likely it is to be employed.
