@Rich I use the KZ ZS10 PRO X Headphones (No Mic) which were under £20 on AliExpress with a pair of KZ EDX Pro X as a backup (£5). I don't find them that different from each other, but what makes a difference are the (earbud) tips used - "memory foam" ones work better for me than the silicon sets that came with them - and upgrading the cable. Like you I can still hear my bass, with overall sound of the band maybe halved. I use a personal headphone mixer to add more bass into the mix. I use the earbuds when practising nowadays and haven't been using my studio headphones for silent play for months.

Excellent thread and one which gives me so much pressure to read about those of us who are still getting out there and doing it long after they've started receiving their state pension. I'm in my very early 40s and started on bass in a band with my mates when we were all 13. I've been fascinated and captivated by this instrument and music in general ever since. I play in bands but I have a regular job and a family and I think that is the best position for me. I just don't know if I would enjoy it as much if I was doing it full time but you never know.... Back to the topic question, what keeps me going is playing with others and gigging. There are caveats though: I lose interest if and when it becomes repetitive and predictable. I'm constantly on the look out for the next gig and a band that plays the type of stuff I like with excellent musicians to play and bounce off. I am also afflicted with GAS. Finally, I don't think you can 'complete' a musical instrument like you complete a video game. You can keep learning all through your life and keep it fresh by challenging yourself. Without bass and music in my life I would be a different person indeed.

For a brighter tone, D'Addario Pro Steels work really well on my Ash bodied Precision bass. The bass has quite a full sounding pickup on board so those strings pair well. The thing I like about using steels is that you can turn the tone down a little to find a sweet spot - but you can't coax zing out of a string that doesn't have those qualities. That said, I like the brightness of the D'Addario NYXL and even the XL Nickels fresh and crisp out the packet! "Ready to go" tone!

I am working on another intense Gary Willis/Tribal Tech chart but have also had some gigs and rehearsals this week so that's why it has gone quiet.

Hi there! I'm thinking about giving a try to steel strings since I'm starting to look for a brighter sound, but just 'a bit' brighter, that's why I'm not sure and wonder your opinion about it. I've always used DR Sunbeams Nickel-Plated Round Core. I would try the same strings but stainless steel, like Fat-Beams. Any thoughts? I like warm but a bit bright and clear sound. (It's to play on my P-Bass BTW). Thnx in advance for your answers.

PRICE NOW DROPPED TO £275. Easily the best speaker cabinet I have ever used: am downsizing to lighter Genz Benz cabs as I rarely play live now. The Eden D210XST Cab is loud enough to be heard and yet still small enough to be used at home or in a small studio. For those players who need a portable, high-performance rig with even more low end than the XLT, Eden has designed a 2 x 10" cabinet for their XST woofers. Punchy and clean, the D210XST produces a full and clear tone through its two 10" speakers. It's excellent for delivering articulate bass lines with volume. This 2 x 10" cabinet handles more power than many 4 x 10" cabs on the market. The D210XST offers huge bottom end with its cleverly-designed tuned and ported cabinet construction and speaker selection: the low end is full but tight, the mids are open and well-defined and the highs are clear and crisp. Durable build quality makes this ideal for touring and live performances. All Eden enclosures are constructed with 5/8" thick void free plywood with full dado and rabbet jointing. Massive internal bracing prevents vibration and keeps the sound deep, tight and clear. Exclusive Eden Cast Frame loudspeakers and Eden Cast Bell low distortion tweeter horns are designed, hand-built and tested in their own factory in the USA. Very Good condition. Comes with an official Eden cover. Power Handling: 500 Watts Impedance: 8 Ohms Speakers: 2x10" Eden-spec Eminence EC1060XS speakers Tweeter: Eden Cast Bell low distortion Crossover: 3.5KHz @ 18dB Frequency Response: 30Hz - 14KHz Sensitivity: 103dB SPL Connections: Parallel 1/4 Inch and Speakon Dimensions: 23" w x 18" h x 18.5" d Weight: 59lbs / 26.8kg NOW ONLY £300. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred, although happy for buyer to arrange a courier.

How have you been getting on with the IEM mixing @warwickhunt? I'm interested in your progress as the next step on the IEM journey for one of my bands is to go from our simple, analogue mixer stereo IEM setup (common mix plus "more me") to a digital mixer (at this stage, likely an XR18) with the same basic needs to get it all working smoothly.

Just learned that the wonderful actor Adrian Dunbar who, among many other roles, played Chief Superintendent Ted Hastings in Line of Duty is a member of our club... "Although he’d achieve fame in films such as My Left Foot (1989) and The Crying Game (1992), Dunbar started out as a musician. In the 1970s, he played bass and sang backing vocals in an Elvis impersonator’s band." https://inews.co.uk/culture/television/adrian-dunbar-people-trust-bbc-not-any-more-3842057 - Today

Thought I’d join in as I’ve got something mildly interesting to post for a change - this just turned up from Master Effects in Canada, ordered from him on Reverb 28/7 and shipped on 2/8 to arrive today - no fees or anything to pay which was a bonus. Haven’t tested it properly yet but going to gig it tonight with a local trio where I go direct to PA/IEM’s so we’ll see how it goes, might be on the marketplace next month 😁 Highly recommend dealing with Master Effect’s tho, it’s a 1 man band afaik (well he may employ people but it’s a small operation like Sushi Box etc) and he couldn’t have been more helpful. I’ll probably give the Super 800+ a go at some point as well - the pedal is extremely well made and sounds excellent but I’ll reserve judgement proper till I’ve gigged with it a bit

Does this help? I've run the ending of the track through Logic Pro's stem splitter to isolate the bass (it's not perfect and it hasn't managed to separate the bass guitar from the synth bass - however as it's in unison I think this serves it's purpose). Peaches Ending.wav
