  4. I've been playing reggae for most of my musical life, as well as other genres. However, i have never used any kind of 'effects' on a bass. I'm not against using them at all, i just have not been in any musical situation where i felt the need. I got into a conversation with a bass player recently who plays in a few reggae tribute bands and he was telling me he uses effects on all the songs. To my ears, the only bass effects i have heard are when a synth bass line is being played on a keyboard and not a bass guitar. He was attempting persuade me to go down the effects route too, but for reggae i'm too much of a puritan to even consider it given that most of the classic reggae was played on very cheap basic basses. I can get the sound i need from my bass and eq-ing my rig. I do remember trying the sub button on a backline bass rig once when setting up but it sounded like mud so off it went. Any one else using effects for playing reggae, what and why. I know it's each to their own so not trying to be judgemental, just curious to understand. Responses for reggae only please so the thread does not go off at a tangent. 👍🏾🎶
  5. The way I look at it is that any band that expects me to have a bass with a Fender logo on it, obviously isn't the right band for me.
  6. I'm keen. Outside of a gig on 4th October, I have no commitments, but Sundays are good.
  7. On the other hand if you can't "see" how much you are out if you think that you'd nailed it you probably had well enough for to serve the song. In the days before DAWs all you had were your ears to know if your performance was tight enough. These days I'll only look at the screen if I don't like what I hear on playback, and much of the time it's simpler just to have another go, then starting moving individual notes about.
  8. Very, very cool! GLWTS.
  9. It would give you an idea of overall percentage of bass players interested which I suspect could be quite useful unless you specifically don’t want to know? Non participating doesn’t help you much….
  10. Not sure if you are looking for one? If you are, then there’s one currently on the German equivalent of Basschat (bassic.de): https://www.bassic.de/kleinanzeigen/music-man-stingray-thru-neck-4hs-sunburst.58439/ Posted asking price is €2,250.00 (Not affiliated with the seller)

  14. Well the FI is the much more home-grown product over here and vice versa for the C4? 😊
  15. And so 'Frankie' is done all bar the set up ... but I'm letting her settle in and get used to being a bass again before going mad with the action. I brought her up to concert pitch with the nervousness of a bomb disposal officer sat astride a ticking World War aerial mine! Fresh in my mind the first imploding Chinese biscuit material bridge. I needn't have worried. Plenty of graphite in the bridge slots and she was a good'n. So from this to this And how does she sound? Well I'm gobsmacked by how loud she is, I mean the Superior Bassworks Dirty Gut Deluxe strings are not known for huge volume, but the power and projection the old girl has is quite remarkable. I'm getting rather fond of the way she appears jet black in some light and dark brown in others 🙂 Yep I need to cut the nut slots a smidge deeper, and the action could come down a good 4mm at the bridge and still be 'slap worthy'. The oil varnish needs to harden a while longer before it can have a good polish ... and I need to buy a rubber chicken to put inside the bass ... so that when folks ask 'what's the little hatch for?' ... I can reach in and produce it! So after a set up I'm going to look at pickups - ideally something that I can use an adaptor to plug into my Shadow Rockabilly Pro preamp - thus saving on buying two preamps to have both basses gig ready.
  16. Perhaps 60% or so of the new price? Unlike quality wooden bows, these don't really hold their value in the same way in my very limited experience.
  17. interesting how this thread ended up talking about the Fi4 - and the US version ended up talking about the C4 ... !
  18. Sonic reducer. Dead boys
  19. Ashdown did purple tolex speaker cabs for Geezer Butler a couple of weeks ago, imo made them look cool and rather forbidding - I dare say the look that Geezer had in mind.
  20. Markbass Travellor 1 x 15, 400 watt, 8ohm cab. In great condition. Hardly gigged. £250.00 Collection only or can meet within reasonable distance.
  21. Great playing and sounding basses
  22. Year started playing: 1978 Number of basses: 1 ( PBass ) Music theory: 5 Technique: 5 Groove 7 Personally I put more emphasis in fitting my sound to the band / song and less theory and scales etc I think listening is as important as playing IE when not to play !
  23. Sounds - from an iPhone speaker at least - like a grounding issue to me.
  24. Yes, double action and adjustment is at the headstock using an allen key.
  25. Year started playing: 1980 Number of basses: 3 (that I use) Music theory: ??? Technique: ??? Groove: ??? I’m not sure on the last three, I usually make a band sound better when I join than they did before but to be honest I don’t really play/do that much so I couldn’t grade myself.
