  5. I've emailed Zero-Mod and will see what they say. Also tried to use an import duty calculator and it didn't seem like much extra (less than a tenner) but I guess that doesn't take into account any handling fees or whatever else.
  6. Go with the bass with the nicest neck and that feels the most comfortable, as a learner it doesn't really matter about the pickup configuration as long as you got somewhere comfy to rest your thumb whilst playing the bottom string - decent basses all sound similar enough for pickup configuration not to matter. For me, comfort and the neck the most important thing. I think some of the best necks on (new) budget basses are Sire, second hand Yamaha (not the super cheap ones) are also lovely
  7. 5-4-3-2-1 - Manfred Mann
  8. Thank you for your feedback Sean, we are sorry for some experiences you have had in the past. We have been over stretched here for a long, long time now, but have just taken on another full-time member of staff, we have also just improved our warehousing and stock control systems. This should take a lot of pressure from our colleagues which will give them more time and to deal with all situations in the best way possible. We are also implementing an appointment based system, which will allow more one on one time with our customers, again allowing for a way better standard of service. Apologies again, hopefully we can welcome you back as a customer someday BD
  9. Back when I was playing 5 string basses, the 2 basses I gigged with were both Ibanez, one fretted and one fretless. Among the genres I played on them were: rock, pop, reggae, soul (you get the picture). I never had anyone question the tone of my basses, quite the opposite. Ibanez instruments are well made and, because of the reduced dimensions over Fender type basses, very comfortable to play.
  10. Highly tempted to get some pretty wood and have a bash at making something like this for my ABG. I've got some marine plywood with quite highly-figured top plies... hmmm...
  11. Under "breakages" I have ordered a new volume pot. The old one crackles like mad amd no amount of Servicol switch cleaner will resolve. It's going to be a bit of a mission to replace as the new pot isn't a straight swap. The old one is soldered to the preamp board and is much longer. This one will have to be fitted to the bass body and have extension wires to the preamp.
  12. Both excellent pedals. Highly recommend for fans of the Boss OC-2 and Mutron envelope filter.
  13. Ah, something to keep in mind then as my plec playing isn't the most refined..
  14. Not my vibe - but one for the flash gits among us 😂
  15. This. Over my many years of playing I’ve found that if I am really into an instrument I will find a way of playing it that works, and if it’s not doing it for me I just won’t play it. Doesn’t matter about the string spacing or pickups if I enjoy it I’ll adapt my playing to make it work. Over time, and some that may be months or years, I’ll work out where I want to go next and for me that’s been a lifelong journey involving 4 strings 5 strings fretless etc but bottom line is that I have a bass that I WANT to play every day and that’s the best instrument you can aspire to. IMO.
  16. Tart up the old cab to put the original drivers back in when you upgrade the new ones - should get you a few quid back.
  17. Settling with my Anagram and found a NAM profile(Tech21 Red Ripper) that can do something similar so this one must go. Bought from the US including postage and customs. Paid more than my selling price. Only thing missing is the pink paper packaging wrap, won’t affect the tone though 😂 Cash is king! But can part exchange for a Cali Bass Compressor v2 in silver. Any questions, feel free to message me. &nbsp Chad
  18. Hi Mate My alpha is not too far from your set up Although its a Nordy Bigman + NP4A (reverse P) with a uni pre as opposed to the J-retro. works a treat, off the top of my head there are gain trims for each pup, as well as giving it a good go over on pup heights etc, Does it work? hell yes!
  19. I’ve tried some like that and quite like them generally I find they make the bass lean too far backwards and/or ones designed for holding acoustics have feet that are too wide and stick out
  20. Have you seen the new Hercules that come with extra rings that fit on the grab to make it narrower?
  21. I want to be Three! - Toyah
  22. Song 2 - Blur
  23. I have a couple of these in the living room. One for guitar and one for a mandolin. They’re nothing special but they are nicer than normal guitar stands. They come in two parts, so they pack down nice and flat. And they’re only £12.99. I love the grabby Hercules stand but it won’t take my favourite bass (not tall enough) nor my favourite guitar (the Telecaster headstock not being wide enough).
  24. Today
  25. Up for sale again as I sourced a Trace Transit B multifx pedal. New price: £150 posted. Can't say fairer than that given this also includes £40-ish Tech 21 gigbag https://www.thomann.co.uk/tech_21_fly_rig_gig_bag.htm Would also trade for a Trace Elliott Elf head in vgc
  26. Postage now included
  27. What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.
