Interesting - a Spector is on my long list of basses to try for sure... There's just something about the body shape that feels a bit naff to me though. The BB shape is classy and restrained but still cool, and the headstock is amazing too I think. Spector bodies just feel a little "eh" to me right now. Would love to try one soon though!

I wish! No, that's the Unicorn. The Globe's car park is tiny and parking outside the front is a lottery. Luckily the Unicorn is a couple of minutes' walk so we park there after we've offloaded on the road outside the Globe.

2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*

So how did it go guys and gals? Was it as much fun as I had at a Rememberance Parade service followed by an afternoon painting walls? -
We arrived at our gig in Ulverston last night to discover that we hadn't brought microphones, mic leads or mic stands! We borrowed one off the pub, another from an audience member who lived around the corner, and another off a mate of mine who was playing in a different pub 10 minutes walk away (a Shure Beta 58 too). Tiny pub, cramped performance space, absolutely rammed with people, couldn't move for bodies. Great gig in the end, but I wished I'd taken a bigger bass cab despite the tiny space we were playing in. Rob.

+1 for Tru Oil, I refurbed the neck on my BlazerRay build on here. There is a definitive 'How to' here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/331219-95-tru-oil-finished-guitar-a-how-to-guide/

If I had the spare cash I'd buy a new one from Viv - probably in black with the roasted neck. Re your HPF comment, my Mullarkey came with black nylon-coated flats fitted and that will be a factor. They sounded surprisingly good in rehearsal so I've decided to keep them on for now. What strings are you using? -

For such a small outfit they sure do. Bought the HPF online for around 90 bucks, had it delivered to a contact in Toronto and his parents who are my neighbours brought it back with them after a visit. Bit of a hassle at the time but well worth it. -

Me and the singer (it's a duo with backing tracks) turned up to the venue, a pub in Kent, on Friday night... and they had no idea we were playing. We had been booked through an agent. The agent hadn't been told that the manager of the pub had left recently. The new manager had never heard of the agent. They were apologetic, but no hard feelings as it wasn't their fault. They're going to book us in another date in the future. So we had a curry instead and then home for an unexpected early night!

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
jezzaboy replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Worst purchase this years was a Markbass 4 x 10 one of the new ones that weigh sod all. Band didn`t like the look of the yellow speakers and I wasn`t keen on the sound having mostly used Ashdown and Fender amps. So between selling that and the Laney head that was bought to power it, I lost a few quid but hey ho. Best buy is the Fender Rumble 800 that I got from Andertons on a black Friday deal for £150 off the price to replace the above. Not like me to grab a bargain! -
SamPlaysBass started following Markbass Ninja Cab - Speaker Replacement?

How hard is it to get hold of Markbass speakers replacements? Gigged my Markbass AG1000 and Ninja cab last night and it made a funny noise that wasn’t my playing for a change. It did this a few weeks back at another wedding gig - very distorted at gigging volume and the ‘bottom’ speaker seems to be throwing itself far further in its trajectory compared to the top speaker, leading me to think that the speaker/s need replacing. As a side note, I’ve tried the AG1000 on several other gigs with different cabs since that initial wobble and I can confirm that it’s not the head or the bass etc. the only difference was the cab. How tricky are Markbass spares to get hold of? I haven’t contacted Markbass yet but just wanted to know where to start looking. Ideally, I’d like to convert the cab to 4 ohm to get the most out of my Aguilar Tone Hammer 500, and I know the old NY122 cab was nearly the same spec as the Ninja 122 but with a 4 ohm load as opposed to the 8 ohms of the Ninja. Any Markbass speaker stockists happy to help?

What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.

Theres never a reason to not take the Three10 mate. I love mine and the 610 isn't seeing any action atm.
-
-
Yeah - thinking about it a bit more, my 'shim staircase' won't work because obviously (well, to anyone but me!) it raises the bridge as well as the neck block, so the relationship between them stays the same. Duh. So the options would appear to be limited to shaving the neck block, recessing the bridge - or ripping off the fretboard & sticking a thicker one on! Unless there's a bridge out there with much lower saddles...
