  2. I used to like watching MTV on the telly back in the 80s/90s, but it's been a while since I went to any music channel. I don't like subscription services, be they TV or music streaming, so Spotify/Apple/Amazon/Qubuz are not a factor in my life and I don't want someone else "curating" my listening for me. I will switch on to Planet Rock when in the car, but will swap to another station if I don't like what's on.
  3. The review says it all: comprehensive, US published and hard to find. Price is UK posted, unread condition. Now £16. Times And Seasons - The Rise and Fall and Rise of the Zombies Robin Platts HoZac Books, $31.99 356 pages Classic British pop, expertly chronicled Few books on the Zombies exist, but theirs is a story worth telling. And it's predictable that, given their Stateside star status, this quintessentially English quintet of She's Not There and Tell He No fame should be chronicled on an American imprint. The band only hung up its touring shoes last year after leader/keyboardist Rod Argent's stroke, but the work he and singer Colin Blunstone created after their reunion in 2001 - the years since 1968 being silent, in a Zombies sense - are also covered in detail by author Platts. The band always had a youthful camaraderie, having come together at high school, and that comes over faithfully in this account of their heyday - plus a long tail that details their subsequent musical careers. While Blunstone went solo and Argent created an eponymous prog band (of God Gave Rock And Roll To You fame), guitarist Paul Atkinson went behind the scenes and signed Abba to CBS - a feather in anyone's cap. Detail is forensic without being stifling. If the layout is a trifle fanzine-y, the integration of illustrative material like press cuttings and photos with the text helps make this an easy read. And the urge to play the music, always the sign of a good book, is irresistible.
  4. why is it 4th declension and not 2nd? (btw I'm really interested in this stuff) I quite enjoyed latin at shool, our teacher taught us a lot of proper English grammar
  5. Hi Tim, Ive sent you a personal message. Cheers, Woody (Steve)
  6. Instead of moaning about how much it costs to see some old dinosaurs in an enormodrome, you could instead go every week end for a year and see some new exciting bands in a small local venue. No need to book tickets months in advance. Most of the time you can rock up on the night and pay your £10 or less to get in. And thanks to Spotify and YouTube you don't even need to take a punt on whether or not you'll like the music, as you can do your research before you choose who to see.
  7. I thought that was a sideswipe at the sheeple! 🙂
  8. The though of giving an honourable mention to our esteemed/erstwhile group member had occurred to me...

  11. I think I have mine on the 8th notch of the end pin. I always seem to set it too low and then have to raise it 😂 Similarly I only fit the one "fake body bit", the one that leans against your hip.

  15. Crikey that was probably an unlucky typo! Meant to say 'Basschatted', the past tense of the verb 'to Basschat', which describes the processes whereby a thread on a serious topic descends into a form of bass-related word-association/projective test/silliness often involving images from 1970s culture (Monty Python, Leonard Rossiter, Kenneth Williams, Leslie Phillips) or that bass builder from Surrey and which deviates significantly from that point forwards until someone replies to the original post and stops the silliness...... @Dood I think you may have thought I was obliquely referring to another builder, which I wasn't

  17. Posts have a "Posted N hours ago" at the top, but if you edit a post, an "Edited just now" note is placed at the bottom. I've taken to adding a couple of extra blank lines when I edit a post to leave a gap there. Would it be possible to shift the "Edited" note to the top instead, alongside the "Posted" item? Here's an example from another forum:
  18. I’m not really up on what he’s said or his views on practise. None of that stuff interests me to be honest. He just seems like the angry old man from the Simpsons shaking his fist at the sky. Fingers crossed he finds peace.
  19. The MTV generation is a relatively small one that I’m proud to be a part of - the early/mid 90’s had me dicovering new bands at a phenomenal rate thanks to shows like headbangers ball and Into The Pit. Then pop culture icons like beavis and butthead. It was a seminal moment in music history. But as per above, Ray Cokes (legend) is right - MTV died a long time ago. i have nothing but fond memories for those hours spent in front of the screen or watching overnight recorded VHS tapes of the channel.
  20. Bear in mind I'm a friend of @stevie This cab could hava been designed for you. The low end is exemplary, it goes down further than most cabs and is flat down there but is a 'shelved response' due to the power of that neo magnet in the special drivers. The magic is in the crossovers which would put most PA speakers to shame. We did a lot of listening tests with female vocals where our ears are very sensitive to problems. Sade was quite a feature for a while Stevie spent a long time listening, re-measuring, tweaking and then listening again. Frankly it was more like watching the development of a high end hi-fi cab than a bass cab. I don't think there is a bass cab out there to touch the Monaco or Monza for the way it covers the midrange, you'd struggle to find a PA speaker that accurate. I can't see you managing without one for long.
  21. As the Basschat community has always been fantastically supportive in checking out new music, we released our first brand new music in over a year. “Gloss” is out today via Ray Records and streaming on all the usual platforms. As always, we collaborated with Haunting the Atom to make this fun video. For anyone wanting a bit more background, it’s influenced by the post punk bands of our youth. I wanted a Stooges / Velvet Underground simplicity to the music (one note solo and bass line) but with an intelligent lyric. It isn’t typical of next year’s forthcoming third album and is probably the rockiest track we’ve written. Filmed in my house (which stunk of incense for several days afterwards), we had a blast doing this.
