  2. Worth holding out for an early one with the Bill Lawrence Blades, IMHO. I have two with blades and a much later Artisan with Kent Armstrongs. I like the Armstrongs a lot and the Artisan is a fine bass, but the blades are by some distance the best passive humbucker I've ever used.
  3. A used Yamaha 1024/X isn't active but it's within your budget if you can find one and it sounds modern, not much like a Fender at all. It really does have the thickness of tone that the best active basses have, too. It will certainly challenge something like an SB1000 for that in-your-face upfront bass sound that was so popular at one time. I suppose nowadays when bass players refer to "modern" basses it's a bit complicated because what that mainly means is what used to be modern back in the old days, that being the late 1970's to the late 1990's. I've been getting into that sound again recently. It's long overdue a revival. In modern times ie post millennium traditional "retro"style basses and tones have dominated.
  4. Just got home from a Spacewasters rehearsal. We only rehearse when we’ve a gig looming (2 in fact, in the next couple of weeks, both at The Water Rats in Kings Cross) just to refresh a bit. Our new guitarist is fitting in well, both guitarists working this eve on sounds and who does which lead bit etc. Plus me and both guitarists now doing backing vocals so a lot stronger in that dept which is good. Bass was JMJ Mustang into the studios - I think - Laney stack of amp/410/115, sounded great. In this band I tend to go for a more traditional supporting bass sound which I prefer to the up front/listen to me sounds I’ve had previously.
  5. This was the album version of Angel Eyes from the same album, which has a far more grunty bass line, almost like the producer said 'Play it how JJB would sound....?'
  6. I was tempted to pile up loads of pedals on top of the qc and take a photo. I mean, fair enough though.
  7. Trade options updated.
  8. Secondhand, Ibanez SR Premiums come in at the top end of your budget, but are a lot of bass for your money.
  9. Carrier pigeon?
  10. I had a Spector Legend....for the price it played well and sounded great live!
  11. A band with some great basslines. Loved Dance Away - although that was Alan Spencer and I dont want to hijack the thread!
  12. There was an Overwater 'original shape' on Bass Direct this morning.
  13. Do Yamaha BBs look too Precisiony, if not def worth checking out.
  14. There was a fretless Atlansia for sale on here not long ago, was tempted... The Kleins do appear from time to time, and each time, I want to buy one, but don't.
  15. This was on sale here a while ago, wasn't it. Olive top?
  16. 15 strings could mean a harp bass. No frets, no fretboard at all.
  17. Bass nice and prominent and grunty in this live mix https://www.facebook.com/bryanferryfanpage/videos/roxy-music-trash-nippon-budōkan-tokyo-japan-april-28-1979-pro-shot/684994735365558/
  18. That ash body looks like a nice bit of wood. It would be a shame to cover it up with paint.
  19. Atlansia Overwater C bass was mentioned! Klein Bootsy Star bass
  20. Hi, Bass is 4.3kg on my bathroom scales, original trans red finish.
  21. We gotta get out of this plaice - the Animals

  24. There's no electrical detail for the 10.5 but it's half an Omni 10, so the two relevant options are Parallel - gives higher sensitivity for a brighter sound Series - reduces tweeter output if option 1 is too bright My guess is that the switch is simply to cut the tweeters out. The tweeters go in parallel with the woofer, + to +, and the speakons go 1+/1- to + and -. You could get all sophisticated and work out a way of switching between no tweeter, series tweeters, and parallel tweeters. But first you'll need to work out where the other ends of all the wires go, and maybe label them all.
