I thought the springs on stacked knobs were to help with grounding? 🤔🤷♂️ -

So at our last gig one of my old iColor 3’s took a stage dive and is no longer with us 😪 Having hummed and haa’d about upgrading for some time, I have finally bit the bullet and gone for a pair of LEDJ 211’s. They put out quite a bit less lumens but we never ran the iColor’s at full power anyway so I am hoping these will serve well as stage wash lights. I will report back once I’ve tried them out in anger.

There are two sources of noise, mechanical and airflow. Obviously, Noctua put a lot of effort into addressing both and are a relatively affordable upgrade (if you avoid the very top of the range). But I've rarely encountered fans with a lot of mechanical noise compared to airflow noise, at least in the last 10-15 years, in the 90/00s it wasn't uncommon to encounter all sorts of rattly or rumbly fans). The main shortfall with cheap fans is poor lubrication of the sleeve bearings. Pealing back the sticker and applying a tiny amount of light mineral oil will silence many noisy sleeve bearing fans for years. As for airflow, you can use better aerodynamic designs, but in small amps where size is a limiting factor, fans have to be small. My TE Elf is a good example, its tiny fan is intrusive if you run it in a 'bedroom' context as it runs flat out and isn't helped by the small vent holes. For slightly larger amps you can fit a bigger fan and use PWM or similar to reduce fan speed and achieve much less airflow noise. The airflow through the amp itself is another issue, and you need a certain volume of air to achieve cooling. Something like the Orange Terror has a 75mm fan and a 'showbox' design with a lot of ventilation slots, which is probably why it is relatively quiet. My computer has two 125mm fans, they run at modest speed 99% of the time and the airflow and heatsinking are well designed, so they are barely audible, even with the side panel off.

It's not every day you see two of these up for sale on the Marketplace, is it? For Sale / Trade 2019 Fender Flea Signature Road Worn Jazz in faded Shell Pink. You already know how good these are - they have the same Pure Vintage 64 Pickups as the American Vintage & the American Original series Jazzes. This one has a couple of additions from a previous owner - a Leo Quan BadAss II Bridge and a micro switch for Parallel/Series switching. Series mode gives it more of a P-alike shove. It's a great sounding bass and I'll throw in one of the new Fender triangular padded Gig Bags. Oh, and it has brand new genuine Fender Road Worn Strap Buttons. The previous metallic red locking ones really had to go! Obviously this is a Road Worn bass, so a bunch of Mexicans at the Ensenada plant have more than likely kicked the body around a shale carpark during their lunch break, but condition is exactly as you'd expect - rather like a nicely worn in '61 Jazz, which is what it's apparently trying to be. No flaky bits of faded Shell Pink have fallen off while it's been in my tenure, anyway. Potential buyers are welcome to come and try the bass whether they end up buying it or not. There's always Tea/Coffee and maybe biscuits. Price is £900. Interesting trades considered. Buyer to collect, or I will happily meet up half way at a distance of up to 100 miles (200 miles total distance!) from DE7. Thank you for your attention.

Hi @deadshed Buying from the UK has become fairly nightmarish post-Brexit. The cost of postage in both directions is insane and then there's customs. I occassionally buy and sell in the classifieds section here - if I'm selling, I go across the border and post from Newry to avoid the other stuff but when it comes to buying, I have to include a hefty mark-up postage and customs markup in my budget when it comes to buying from other BC'ers. An Post have a thing called Address Pal that gives you a virtual UK address, so that reduces the cost of postage to the seller, but it's not way of bypassing the other costs to yourself. Adverts and DoneDeal are the best place to buy second-hand and, in my experience, Gear4Music are the best option for new (or B-stock) gear because they're fulfilled from Ireland so the postage is cheap and there's no import. Anyway, welcome (where's NA?)

Another good point, well made. I played my last gig in sloppy gear as We were late on stage and i was forbidden to change… I always thought Dr Feelgood had the ideal ‘non-image’!

It is difficult to control as other people will post stuff that you would rather wasn't out there, but you can make sure that you send out decent clips and try to get people to share and push the better ones up the YouTube algorithm. From a quick look at your FB page, you might want to consider sprucing up your image a little bit if you want the band to move up a level. It's playing blues, so it isn't as image conscious as other genres, so you don't need the leathers and full sleeves of ink or anything. But if you look at the bands that get the gigs on the festivals and blues clubs, some bands have a very definite look and even those who go for the jeans and a shirt approach will make sure that they have a certain image.

@mcnach where did you get the vinyl? I'm thinking about wrapping a telecaster I've got rather than the hassle of stripping it and painting.

I’m the opposite tone with a pick is very much my goal to make it punchy and full sounding / a cross of finger fullness and pick drive tone. I can do both methods and prefer to set my amp to sound the best with a pick. Playing rock in a single guitar band requires the bass to be present full and driving

Must be the environmental then (am spraying in an unheated, uninsulated shed, so save for wind whatever's going on outside is happening inside also). I'm using the same timings as before, as instructed on the can (3 minute shake, 2 coats 5 minutes apart at 6"/15cm distance, 15 mins touch dry, 24 hour cure), so I left it 15 mins between double coats and that was working fine for the past two nights. I know men cannot be relied upon 100% to know what six inches looks like, but I'd like to think I was in the ball park most of the time...

Very good points. I have posted dodgy footage as it’s all I have… need to reconsider!

Depends on the construction of the guitar, scale-length and tuning and the amount of processing applied. The 28" scale Baritone guitar I had that was tuned B-B produced wonderfully rich sounding chords even in the first position. That was with a fairly clean sound. On the other hand the 30" A-A tuned guitar I tried was only useful for individual picked lines.

You chose wisely.
