  2. Used Ernie Ball cobalt flatwounds (40-95 I believe), got em off fellow BCer, keep trying flats but keep never seem to get on with them :(. £18 posted (no original packaging) …
  3. There's a lot of Lekato wirelesseseses available - https://lekatodeal.com/en-uk/collections/wireless-guitar-transmitter-receiver I use the WS-50 - 5.8GHz digital. Toying with getting the WS-90 which has double the battery size. Edit: Oops - accidentally pressed "Buy it now" on a WS-90 with box opened for £40. Oh dear.
  4. These are very nice indeed. I've played quite a bunch of mustangs, and these JMJ's are consistently good. Better than vintera or Japanese models I've played. It looks like a former owner has fitted other tuners at one point, which caused damage. I can't see why someone would swap the tuners on these basses. They are very decent quality...
  5. I have a fairly light touch , my hands don’t sweat a lot , I wipe them down every once in a while. Intonation is good on them. And they have a nice woody thump , not a lot of sustain. I plan to leave them on until I lose or break one. Could be years. I’ve occasionally cleaned the gunk off with some alcohol. Maybe every 2-3 years or so … When the bass was new it could be pretty zingy. And I found that with more playing time the strings lost that high end and sounded better. It just sounded better , and better , so I didn’t change them. Today , with the hollow body , wooden bridge and 25 year old strings it’s just got a rich thump. But it does that really well. I do run it through a nice amp.
  6. If you're going to be a tribute band then you have to try to be spot on with the music. You don't have to look anything like the band but the music should be as close as possible to the original. Will Lee (the renowned session bass player) is a huge Beatles fan and has his own Beatles Tribute band called The Fab Faux. They don't look anything like the beatles but, as you can imagine, musically they are absolute perfection.
  7. I've been using this for the last few months and loving it. It's a 500w 2x8 4ohm GR Bass cab (wooden one not carbon) paired with my GK MB Fusion 500 (I've taken the sticker off, don't worry!😉) It's punchy, light and loud enough on it's own and sounds like a bass cab should. We always take out our 'small pa' now, which has 12" subs and tops and so depending on the venue I can blend a bit in as required and keep backline down. I have also started using my VT Bass DI by velcroing it to the top of the amp and taking a parallel (clean) feed to the amp - so I can EQ FOH and set my PA /IEM sound separately to the PA. This seems to work well and I've already been able to mitigate a 'bass trap' corner on the AMP whilst maintaining bottom end through the PA. Typically I do a quick soundcheck with the backline muted, get a good sound FOH then unmute and blend in the backline volume - work well.
  8. Just bought Bassybert’s MarkBass Tube Compressor from him - really good transaction. I paid for it late-ish on Monday and it was in my hands by Wednesday morning. It came really well packaged, communication was spot on and the pedal is amazing 👌🏼 Five stars from me 😁⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  9. Those who follow Glenn Fricker and the Spectre Media Group on Youtube may recall him mentioning a book called The Physics of the Electric Guitar (only in German) by one Manfred Kollner. Although the book was only ever printed in German and is now out of print, there is an English translation of most of it. The separate chapters are available as PDF downloads at https://gitec-forum-eng.de/the-book/.
  10. Super Twin are really great cabs. Excellent power to weight ratio. Been my main gigging cab for several years. Always great sound linked with a wide range of heads. None better on market IMHO, and I have tried many.
  11. I should add that it’s £50 including postage so it’s around a £15 saving overall from Amazon or Thomann
  12. I don't think it's string gauge that's the issue. I use .105 for my E strings and haven't had any flapping with D'Addario or Newtone strings when I drop to D. How new are the strings on it and what brand are they?
  13. Today
  14. I think DR do strings designed for drop tunings. The highest tension roundwound strings I’ve used are Rotosound steel rounds, Warwick Red Label steel rounds, and Fender nickel rounds.
  15. I use an Ampeg Classic Analog Bass Preamp Pedal which is great and a TC Electronic Nova Drive which has both overdrive and distortion and this also works well...... I will have a play with the 18" cab and see how it sounds
  16. Sold a few pedals to Steve recently - great communication, pleasure to deal with as others have mentioned. Thoroughly recommended as everyone else has mentioned!
