The originals were Squiers, only the reissues are Fender Japan. My Brother had a Katana six-string.

Not at the moment. Ive recently joined a alt rock band in Langport. We're writing and recording at the moment. Gigs later in the year hopefully. I was in a doom metal band in Devon before. My oldest daughter plays bass for Butane Skies, they're playing in Frome (and everywhere else) pretty regularly.

Another fascintating video into the world of an in-demand show bassist at the top level. Ian King covers his gear, preamps, settings, mics for his double bass and a discussion with the show's audio designer. It's not that Overwater bass though, he's got a cool grey one, maybe with a maple neck (?), with black metalwork. The tone he has is fantastic and his playing sublime.

….or maybe Troy (TJH3113 on YT). I think he’s a fan. I thought he was a member here, but I can’t seem to find him.

Have you tried it in a different electrical socket ? Mains hum perhaps ? Presumably it makes that noise with no input ?

Cover Solutions might be an option. You might have to go via the Patreon route, but could be worth it.

Build one or two and circulate them around a select few chosen basschatters for an honest critique. Ideally those that already play the kind of basses you're intending on building. That'd be a nearly free way to test for viability in terms of how your build stack up against those with a great deal of experience playing similar basses. It'd be important to ensure that those testing your build aren't just going to be 'yes men' and that they will give you very honest and candid feedback. Being polite to save your feelings will only do damage to any business longevity. -

Just bought a Yamaha Stagepas 100 for use as a monitor for small band . FOH is taken care of by Yamaha DHR10 . The Stagepas is a great and easily transportable monitor with 2 channels , one can be used as a Hi impedance for instruments and also has aux in . I just feed channel 1 from the monitor feed on the mixer . Can be stood on floor and tilted or mounted on mic stand . Also bluetooth . Worth a look and works a treat .

You mentioned holding the mic' to test it. Don't. Just touch it with one finger. There's a chance that you could freeze and not be able to let go if you get a shock. Phantom power is 48v. Too low to give the feeling of a shock. Don't use your gear until it has been properly checked over and invest in a tester, as others suggest. Faulty extension cables are an obvious suspect. Does it only happen at one venue/place? If so, their wiring may be faulty. I've found faulty wiring in several pubs over the years, thanks to my mains tester. The landlord had probably got a customer to do a bit of electrical work in exchange for a few pints. It happens.

The original Fender Katana bass was pretty weird. This is a nice talking point but I don't think I will ever see one anywhere.

dannybuoy started following Overdrive pedal to add warmth to rig.

Gotta agree with the earlier recommendations for the TC Spark. Stellar pedal. I find the Beta a bit dark and lifeless until the gain is cranked up significantly, which then puts it into heavy overdrive territory rather than an always-on warmer-upperer.

Price drop - £135 includes UK postage Hi, I’m selling my Aguilar Octamizer version 2. Well looked after and very little use. £185 price includes UK Postage. Here’s a bit of info from Aguilar: AN ALL-ANALOG OCTAVE PEDAL THAT CREATES A WIDE RANGE OF MUSICAL SOUNDS AN OCTAVE BELOW YOUR BASS SIGNAL. Modeled with old school and new school needs in mind, the Octamizer features independent volume controls for both the Clean and Octave sounds. This makes dialing in the exact amount of each a cinch. The two discrete signal paths also have their own tone controls that were specifically designed to enhance and expand their musical possibilities. The CLEAN TONE control uses a full spectrum tilt EQ, allowing for the boosting of treble while cutting bass or boosting of bass while cutting treble. This unique circuit allows you to create a clean sound that creates an octave doubling effect or to blend the sounds together for a great thick, snarky synth tone. *Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Proprietary detector circuit for superior tracking Continuously variable multipole low-pass filter for Octave sound Dual filter architecture Full spectrum tilt EQ for clean sound Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Cheers! Michael

Floor standing or mic' stand mounted? If floor, I use a pair of HK Premium Pro 10s, which do the job for me. They double up as FoH cabs for small gigs. They're similarly priced to the Bose, which is pricey for what it is - a 6" bass unit with tweeters. You pay for the name with Bose. Smaller (10") powered cabs are offered by all of the usual suspects. RCF are decent. I used to have a pair of db Technologies active 10s that were good, too and cheaper than the HKs. Can't remember the model number, but they've been superseded anyway. You can get away with a smaller bass driver for mic' stand mounting, but if it's on the floor, I wouldn't go too small. I have a TC FX150 mic' stand mounted monitor, which is very good, but it's discontinued. Shame, as I'd like another. The Mackie equivalent is decent, although it doesn't have onboard reverb, which is handy for vocals. The Behringer ones that many use are only so-so.

Yeah very nice basses. If I ever come across one with a maple board I may not be able to resist. Expensive, but similar to other used high-end basses, I guess Musicman basses are in the boutique realm these days price-wise. I wonder how it compares to something like a Vincent Akkurat, those are almost the same price but brand new, and you can choose from a bunch of colours and options.
