  2. To be honest, they do a job and little more. They play fine and don't have any of the sticking but I don't really like the sound much. Old rounds are ok, but you have to endure the twang to get there!
  3. I bought these for a project that never happened, used but in good condition, £90 £70 including delivery to UK addresses
  4. This bass started life as a Gherson Jazz bass that I bought off @Bass Wielder here last year I have had the neck completely refretted and levelled as there was some buzzing up at the dusty end Rerouted for new Toltec Jazz pickups, ring around the bridge pickup is to hide the previous rout as the original pickups were an odd ball size New Pickguard added and the original pots used Tuners also changed out Schaller bridge fitted Weight is 4.6 Kg's The body is just a lovely, pickups are lively and loud Asking price is about half what it cost me in total to put togeather but the result is great IMHO I will include free delivery to UK addresses

  5. "The plan is for a straight up punk P bass. Think single volume knob, bright colours." Will you do something different and paint the neck? It seems to be one very rare choice.
  6. Ideally it should be a randomised double blind test, where you don't know which is which either. Not sure how you do that with cabs though. 🤔
  7. Apologies if this is something that has already been covered on multiple threads (but hasn’t most stuff?) But, I’m looking for 1/4” cable recommendations, AND XLR recommendations, preferably a company that offers some warranty on the products. We’ve been smashing through Fender guitar leads over the past 12 months and we’ve been having a few issues with XLR’s and I realise it’s probably because we just replace cheap rubbish with more cheap rubbish. So, I need to upgrade our cables. Any recommendations appreciated. TIA, Alex
  8. Keep an eye on the DJ then!
  9. It's this one: https://www.gear4music.com/Drums-and-Percussion/Alesis-Nitro-Max-Electronic-Drum-Kit/5X88?origin=product-ads&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22254162605&gbraid=0AAAAAD_kjLRo3zwO3mh0fmvasQyqIkOBi&gclid=CjwKCAjwtrXFBhBiEiwAEKen1x5cMGLEUFPo8-kKRKrvLf-NHsy4ySpDH4t_qglX3ICtSswi_I5BhRoCX0UQAvD_BwE Almost complete leccy kit, all that's required is a drum throne and a kick drum pedal. When I took the photos I was intending to include the DW2000 but Paul the Drums heard about it and threatened to throttle me if I sold it. In fairness, the price wouldn't be so ludicrously low if it was still included. Replaced in my studio (The Final Junkyard) earlier today by a Roland TD-17 so this is now not only surplus to requirements but also temporarily available to post (although at quite a stiff cost, I imagine) because I have a bunch of drumkit-shaped cartons for a very limited period. Collection in person would still be better but, unlike a bass or an amp, testing would be decidedly tricky. The kit is 18 months old and works perfectly, up to and including my rehearsal last Thursday. It's done maybe 150 rehearsals with half a dozen bands, half a dozen drummers, and it's never ... erm ... missed a beat. Sorry. No sane drummer would ever choose this as their main gigging kit, but for rehearsals, home practice, or for a beginner it's ideal. Much lighter weight than the equivalent Roland or Yamaha kits, it's a very easy one person lift to move around a practice space or bedroom. It's also perfectly capable of gigging in confined spaces (small pubs, wine bars, etc) because apart from the small footprint it needs no floorspace to lay out all the hardware and cases required by 'real' drums. And no, the DW2000 is still not included.
  10. Did a bit of follow up with various sources and judging by the serials of the Pre and the power amp it’s from about April/ May 1982. I don’t know if they were still made at Soundwave in Romford by this time…. i also had another stroke of luck , I managed to pick up a later series TE 1 x 15 cab to go with it at a good price (£20) I’m hoping to find a 4 x 10 soon too to complete the rig. Oh and a sack truck to move it about…..
  11. Maybe it was available only from Atlansia?
  12. Now I’m thinking Bono as The Fly!
  13. Indeed, why a four string neck?
  14. For me rounds are the thing, but finding the right set took quite a lot of time. 1) The right one here means that I use two brands, but similar gauge sets (SS RW) in every bass I have. 2) This helps to carry an extra set in a bass case, because that one suits, yes, every bass. 3) It's cheaper to order 10 sets at one time than 1 set 10 times. 4) The feel is nearly the same through all instruments, although scale lengths (33.8 - 36") have some effect on it. Maybe I am a fanboi of the string sets I use now, but there was a long and pricey trial and error period. Someone asks why I do not list the sets? Only because I believe that everyone should test different sets and find the right types, brands, and gauges that go together with the instruments and playing styles people have. My choice most probably isn't suitable for you. How I see strings: - tapewound: short sustain, lousy sound (which isn't automatically a bad one) - flatwound: a bit more of everything to TWs - groundwound: see previous Every set mentioned so far can be held in a bass until a fret cuts the surface of the string. - Ni RW: flat, pretty full response, good for rock, and fretless - SS RW: enhances highs and lows, thin sets can be really twangy (Miller and King obviously change their strings after few hours of playing) Specialities like a piccolo set can be fun for some time.
  15. We use four LEDJ 7Q5 pars, one for each band member. They set to white light and are mounted on t-bars and pointed at everyone's midriff to avoid blinding. We've tried placing these on the floor but found that they always blind you at some point. https://www.djanddiscostuff.com/ledj-7q5-led-uplighter-7-x-5watt-rgbw-quad-leds-p1264
  16. What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.
  17. I'm using D'Addario XLR8 for lube....ooo err, but sometimes it's just not enough. I have three early 70's P basses, so I figured it's no big deal to string one of them up with rounds. Given that you seem to prefer flats, how do you deal with the rounds?
  18. Job lot of Lava Tightrope Solderless cables. 28 cables of varying in length from approx 2 inches to 2 feet, plus 1 long (2ft ish) George L's cable that I found in a drawer that i'll throw in. Most worked fine the last time I had them on a board, some probably need to re-assembled (haven't got the time to test them all at the moment). A couple scraps of used cable that can be trimmed/reassembled into new cables, and one purple bit of cable that has never been used. These are super simple to put together, there's plenty of videos on YouTube of the process. Will include one of the cable stripping tools as well. £200 + postage for the lot. The current Lava cable sets are £60 for 10 jacks/5 cables, so this is a pretty good deal.
  19. Up for sale is my Bright Onion Mini Dual Momentary Footswitch. Perfect companion for HX Stomp etc to add a couple of switches. In great condition, with velcro on the bottom. Will include a 28cm EBS Flat TRS Patch Cable (£7 new). This pedal + cable would be £40 posted from Bright Onion, so on offer here for £28 posted. Any questions, please ask. Cheers!
  20. Absolutely fantastic.
  21. Mr Blue Thigh - ELO
  22. Spotted this one on Reverb a week or two ago and it's been on my mind constantly. Killer looking bass, love the RG shape - hardly ever see it in bass but the guitars are just so timeless, reminds me of the 80s shredders. PJ pickups and a nice looking neck, Gotoh tuners too. It's got my name written all over it, and I'd already be thinking of buying it but for one fatal flaw. What on Earth is that finish? Glam went out of fashion almost 40 years ago! https://reverb.com/uk/item/89622765-ibanez-rg-bass-1989-feline-limited-edition

  23. Private party in Southend on Sunday evening. It was for friends of one of our singers throwing a party before emigrating to Australia, so lots of Australian theme decorations, hats and inflatables in the venue. The venue itself is called ‘The Lounge Club’, a beautiful jazz bar with a decent well equipped stage area (including hidden power outlets), great lighting and green room - we were truly spoiled. The club has a mix of jazz and soul acts usually, with a number of tribute acts, so it quite fun to bring some heavier rock to the place. We brought our own PA, but the club owner said we could go through their house system, so we just run a couple of xlr leads out of our mixer direct to their patch bay and let them control the volume. Said system consisted of two huge subs either side of the stage and a couple of large tops flown from the ceiling. Quite a bit pokier than our megreat 12” tops and single 12” sub. Personally, I feel it needed a centre fill, but apparently it sounded great further away from the stage. I think they were calibrated a bit on the bossier side (as proven when the DJ played music when we took a break and finished - almost painfully loud and you could feel the bass in you stomach), I had to run the hpf on our mixer up to 90hz to stop it overwhelming the mix - it could possibly have gone even higher. As such I was worried that my IEM mix would be lacking, but it sounded fine with the subs filling in the low end. First set was a little lacking in audience participation, but by the time we kicked off the second set set everyone was sufficiently fuelled for a proper party. Really enjoyed this one. Just looking out to see a large club full of dancers throwing balloon and inflatables around was a sight to behold. It reminded my of the good old Top of the Pops days in the 70s and 80s. We had some lovely comments and gave our plenty of business cards, including the couple who booked us who said we were better than the £5k band they booked for their wedding. We really ought to be charging more for these events. Hopefully the venue will be able to recommend us to anyone else who wants to book a rock, pop and party band! Next stop, this Thursday at the Cricketers in Southend. A double header with another local covers band, in aid of the RNLI. Should be an interesting night.
