Just found a deadspot on my Dingwall. I am annoyed.
DG5 replied to kwmlondon's topic in Bass Guitars
Bummer to find a dead spot and glad you found enough of a resolution to be happy. I'm on my twelfth Canadian Dingwall (no I don't all twelve now, just the mere five!) and I guess I've been lucky that none have had any kind of dead spot that I've picked up on, and I play all over the neck. Then again most have been quite dense hardwood necks like Wenge and Ovangkol. Maple, although hard, seems to be a bit more variable in my experience. Having owned close to 300 basses from lots of different brands I've stuck with Dingwall as the build quality, feel and tone have been consistently outstanding, with one notable exception (A super PJ5 I custom ordered which was didn't feel that well made and sounded average IMHO). I had a lovely MM Big Al 5 that I desperately wanted to keep but it had a humungous dead spot on the 7th fret G - the note died instantly and was pretty dead a fret either side. Tried all manner of fixes, new nut, strings, truss rod tweaks, taking the neck off, undoing the neck bolts at tension, weights on the headstock. In the end I got rid. Even high quality brands can suffer from it. -

More good feedback for Mark: I sold him an acoustic bass gig bag and he was a great Basschatter throughout the transaction again. A pleasure to do business with once more. Thanks again Mark! 🏆

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
rwillett replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
I did my first singing open mic last night. Not sang in public since I was wearing shorts and did "Where is love?" from Oliver. I did two songs of my own, "Blues ain't no good to me" and "Another lonely man". Never sung with a microphone, never sung whilst playing a guitar and never in front of a crowd. So popped my cherry a number of times there. Thankfully they were gentle and of the six people who did things I was the only one with original material so that was a slight bonus. People were very nice afterward. A Sennheiser E935 is now winging it's way to me. Not making that mistake again and will practise an awful lot more. I didn't bomb but learnt a lot. Rob -
I’ve moved away from the clean amps I was using and I’m now using Orange Terror Bass and LBT

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
Chienmortbb replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Well I ran my first open mic night yesterday at the Legion in Broadstone, Poole. I knew that one of the best Open Mic'ers around was on holiday, and although I have been pushing it for three weeks, I have not had much interest. I used my new Wharfedale Typhon 8AXFs and a single Citronic Casa 10 Sub. I mixed it through my A&H CQ20R mixer using two mics, one a Sontronics Solo, the other was a Behringer BA85A. Two feeds were also connected for instruments. Initially the sound was odd, then I realised that the LH top was set way down on the speaker, and it came to life. There seemed to be no performers present until I said that people could sing to a backing track. One of the lads got up and said he would get his guitar from the car. He told me later that it was a fluke that he had his guitar in the car, and he had not heard that open mic night was happening. I was shocked when he walked back in with an Acoustasonic, and he proceeded to play 6 songs, showing some real skill on the guitar. Later, another chap said he came, although he had almost lost his voice. Both he and Acoustasonic man said that they would be back next month. Finally, a few people got up and sang along to backing tracks. So although the attendance was small, I am encouraged that younger lad said he would bring his Dad on Keyboards next time and Chris, always good for playing as long as you want, is back next month. I am looking forward to it already. -

Correct, what I said earlier is that there is no approved component level repairs for the ICEPower modules. Your problem is with the amp manufacturer not offering out of warranty repairs, but almost all manufacturers have approved service centers that handle out of warranty work. This is what I am puzzled about, did you not contact one of the manufacturer's service centers?

How was your recording session last night/yesterday...?

The Inevitable Teaspoons, Wednesday 11th February 2026, our own rehearsal room in rural NE Scotland. I don't generally have breakfast, sorry and Wednesday was no exception. A wee photo of my work area, even though I wasn't doing any actual recording on Wednesday - we like to warm up by playing a few songs before recording anything. More work on our next album, working on a track called "Lovely Night Out In The Country" Recording using a Zoom R24 and an AKG dynamic mic of some sort (because we're so professional and taking it so seriously). Got the drums, keys and bass down already, in this session got sax, trombone, lead vox and two lots of backing vox down. Despite some hijinks (the apogee of which was the keyboard player pinging a rubber band at the sax player as I was away to hit record for the trombone player recording some BVs), I think we got through a decent amount of stuff. Just got harmonica and any other incidental stuff we feel like to do, then that's another track in the bank. -
Thanks!😀 They're certainly not cheap, however, there are stores in the U.S. with inventory and are willing to deal. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help.😉

What's the going rate for Stingrays nowadays?

I looked at the seller's profile; a 'proper' gigging bassist who has sold some very tasty gear in the last couple of years! They knew what they were selling but possibly misjudged the value... well it sold in under 1 hour and the description actually said that they'd take £800 for it but no less... as if! LOL -

Just like I said, in the real world you can still pick up a decent used Stingray for under a grand if you are patient and keep an eye out. Some poor soul in Lincolnshire who thirty years ago fantasised of breaking free from a life of servitude on the local potato farm and playing bass for Oasis has just sold the last vestiges of his youthful dreams for £850, and is probably glad with that sum.
