My Armacab arrived Weds. Well packed, but still sitting in the box. Have you started yours yet? Was interested in what prep you are doing. My intention is to try it on some off cuts and see how it handles slight defects on the edges. Not sure if I need to have the surface piano grade smooth or the armacab will easily handle the small splinters on the edges. Also not sure if I want or need to round the edges. People seem to do it but I'm not sure why. My cab is basically done bar wiring and finish. Slightly nervous about the covering though.

No Mike, just a fun writing/recording project. Getting loads of different mates involved. There will be an “albums’” worth of material in the spring/summer. It’s been fun.

It looks like you are right...Has to be said, that is a pretty niche thing to do. 'I need new pickups for my John Birch bass, therefore I will buy another John Birch bass and take the pickups out of it'...That is quite weird, right?
-
I see that many people round the edges of the cab. Is there a good reason for this please? Perhaps for the mottled finish or because the plastic corners assume so? If so what's the recommended radii? 5mm? 12mm? Or just to take edge off? Thanks.

I’ve used the La Bella SP-47125 Super Polished set. They’re basically La Bella’s stainless-steel rounds that have been heavily smoothed, so they feel much closer to flats but keep more of the clarity and punch of rounds. Tone: More focused and cleaner than typical rounds, with noticeably reduced finger noise. Not as bright as regular rounds, but definitely brighter and more articulate than flats—especially helpful for the B string. Feel: Very smooth, almost flat-like, but still with the flexibility of rounds. Great if you want less squeak and a softer feel without losing too much top-end. They sit nicely between standard rounds and true flats in both sound and price.

The intent (at least my intent) was to go beyond the Bass 400+ with changes and feature set that make more sense to today’s players. I asked hundreds of players what they would like to see different on a reimagining, what features are now considered important or essential. The variable HPF was at the absolute top of the list, but so was the pre-post switchable DI, aux input, headphone output, and somewhat surprisingly the USB power port. Size and weight were also a common wishlist item. Some of you here participated in that TalkBass thread and poll, there was a remarkable degree of agreement too.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
tauzero replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Busy night for me - last time, a guitarist I've played with before at a different open mic turned up with a drummer friend who hadn't played live for years and we did about half a dozen songs. The drummer turned up again this evening and sat in with one of the regulars while I played bass. I'd made notes, having been slightly forewarned, but everything was two semitones down, fortunately not complicated songs (Stick season, Shotgun, Somewhere under the sun). Then played with another regular who always does the same three songs (a blues in E, Folsom Prison blues, Knocking on heaven's door), and then got recruited by another duo of drums and guitar/vox to play Route 66, Amarillo (hadn't played that for about 20 years), and Ventura Highway (new one on me). And a guitarist I've played with a few times before asked me to have a look at a couple of songs for some future occasion. -

And despite repeated pestering, there's no sign that it ever will (also doesn't work with the MS-plus series). There is a patch manager available that works through a browser at https://sym.bios.is/

Electro Harmonix 24v Bass MicroSynth - the Big Box!
Gareth Hughes posted a topic in Effects For Sale
Up for sale - an Electro Harmonix 24v Bass MicroSynth. Full of analog goodness. Not just good - good for you!! If you're looking at this, you know what it does. Definitely leagues better sounding, and feeling, than the smaller 9V versions. Hard to put a price on this - some insane £900+ prices on eBay. Quite a few in the £600-800 range. I think £325 plus postage is more sensible.-

If the port is 11.15mm long, surely that means it will be shorter than the thickness of the cab (assuming 12mm ply).
