dave74200 started following Squier JV Precision Bass 83 in Excellent Condition
-
This is an amazing bass and is in stunning condition for a 1983 made instrument. I have recently aquired it but have decided to sell now as I bought as an investment but I will gig the hell out of her and wreck any chance of long term profit. The bass plays beautifully and sounds amazing and would be my number one but tbh, I've not got a good track record of keeping basses in such pristine condition. My other two basses are both road worn at best!! All original apart from the replacement pickguard but the original is incuded in the sale. Comes with a foam hard case but will need collecting from South Wales. If she doesn't sell at this price I'm going to keep her and gig her as my main bass and the fact that she will be far from showrrom condition in 5 years will be ok!! Any tryouts aremost welcome. This is the best Precision I've played and this isn't a sales pitch. I'll give it a week and if not sold, she's out on the road!! Many thanks, Dave.

Pitch to MIDI for the bass is a complete non-starter. The very best systems combined with the cleanest playing technique require a MINIMUM one and a half cycles to detect the pitch of the note played. That means that any note lower than E on the 9th fret of the G string on a bass will take at least 10ms to detect, 10ms being generally the point at which most musicians start to find latency intrusive and off-putting. And this is under perfect conditions using the best pitch detection systems and an exceptionally clean playing technique. Most older and budget systems (like the G2M) are much worse for latency. On top of that you can add another couple of milliseconds for that pitch to be processed and turned into MIDI information. Even with a piccolo set of strings it rules out anything below the 7th fret of the A string. You either need an instrument that uses fret sensing to detect the pitch or something like the Roland V-bass system to uses modelling to modify the waveforms produced by the strings if you want to use synth sounds from a stringed instrument in a live situation. If you want something for programming your DAW you are better off using a keyboard. If you want to retain the feel you get from playing the part on a bass or guitar, program the line into your DAW and then record the audio from your bass and use a beat slicing tool to make a groove template for the quantisation.

Yeah , too much hassle for what it’s worth . I’ll leave it 😼👍 Thanks for confirming . It can get very expensive , and tbh my time would be spent better trying to learn the stuff I already have etc -

Not wrong. Feel the love people! -
Just in case you didn’t know, the hex parts are likely original to the bass - in ‘95 most Rays were shipped without the mute kit, this may be because the ‘Flea bridge’ introduce in around ‘94 changed the string placement, and they no longer sat in the middle of the mute on all strings. BTW - if you want to get an original style matt pickguard, Planet Pickguard in the States made the originals and still make them to order - about £55 landed I think.

That's my afternoon sorted! Thank you. I do love Badfinger but I have to be in the right frame of mind, it's all just so heartbreaking.

Welcome to BC; if I have one piece of advice it's this: stay away from the sales section for the sake of your wallet.
-
Actually probably one of the reasons I wasn't so keen on the outdoor gig is that I didn't have IEMs, it wasn't as much fun

Sweeneythebass started following Markbass TA501 spares or repair

Very true. I'm happy now with how it came out. My tech and I were talking about it when we did the pickup swap yesterday, and it presents so well as is, and sounds amazing with the Aguilar pickup, that it's best left alone now. All I need to do now is swap the Alun key bolts on the mute spring for the knurled knobs and we're about there. I've got the full mute kit ready anyway, so I have a full set of spare mutes. ⭐ Anyone need a modern Alnico MM humbucker or an Aguilar single coil J pickup? ⭐ I may have some spare...

My first gig using a pa with multiple monitors and a little mixer for each of us. Feels ott to me but works well.

RichT started following NBD: 1995 Stingray + mods reversal, now with Aguilar AG 4M reinstalled.
-
That's beautiful! My Vox Starstreams have that same AG-4M and OBP-2 combo. Has a great range of usable tones, and so easy to get a good sound out of it. Sounds like your 'blend' mod is effectively giving you single coil options - that's a feature on the short scale Rays! It would be right that you'd get a little bit of a scoop in the centre with both coils running together, same as any bass with 2 pickups running together. The particular placement and proximity of the 2 coils running in parallel on a Ray gives it the signature MM sound. Oh and side jack every time. I know you started by saying you wanted it close to stock as possible, but IMO you've ended up with some great mods to that bass.

If you even try that Sonuus (B2M), buy a piccolo set, too. Prepare yourself to play everything again and again to get something reasonable out of the MIDI rig. The best solution is to use a keytar, MISA Tri-Bass, Industrial Radio (split fret) bass or similar. Bass is so slow in frequency to MIDI conversion.

Agree with al of that, pretty sure it's a pic, although he might be mixing in other styles also 👍

Isn’t it just! Genuinely one of my favourite bass parts to listen to (and play along to). Some lovely bits down the low end, some lovely bits up the high end. Melodic motifs, a few double stops and everything he does is sympathetic/adds to the track. But the killer thing for me, amongst the terrific playing/part, is the space he leaves. It really makes it. The tone/sound has often baffled me. I always assume it’s played finger style, but at times, when I listen to it, it sounds like it could be a pick. I’ve spent way too much time over the years pondering this!

Interesting. Have you routed the shape of a scratchplate into a solid top or does it detach?

paulmcnamara started following Aguilar TH500 with SL112 Cabinet £935.00

What can you say about this combination...... its industry standard.... tried and tested and used by so many pros. Amp and cab in good condition and working order. Covers and leads inc. Collection only, alas due to size and weight. I also have a second SL112 cab if yo are interested. Full rig would be 1395.00. Not prepared to sell amp separately at this point.
