  1. Past hour
  2. Not sure about you but I would rather the person piloting any plane I was on or operating on me was paid more than the baggage handler or security guard.
  3. I've met people, called fans, going to a Rolling Stone concert and never noticing that Mick Jagger is singing out of tune, or that Keith Richards is playing something but not what was supposed to be there... I know some other people having seen Madonna or Taylor Swift live and swearing that the band was terrific, when everybody is miming. I've met people telling that Céline Dion saved the slaughter that were the Olympics thanks to her magnificent vocal technique, when it was a wonderful playback. So, being a fan is being biased, don't you think...
  4. I've tried that before. Sometimes the silk is intertwined into the string at manufacturing, making it difficult to remove. I've ordered what I hope is the correct nuts to do the job.
  5. Just perusing Ebay and seen a nice looking AC Guitars, medium scale for sale at what I think is a good price. Collection from Lincoln area only though. 😢 No idea as to whom the seller is. Here's the link.
  6. Stitch is with that, you eliminate the reward aspect of years of learning. Why go through 6-8 years of training and education to be earning the same as a shelf stacker? Yes, we need shelf stackers, but there are those that would rather earn less and not go through rigorous learning and those that would choose to go through years of education to reach a goal. I agree, in an idealistic world, you're right. But in reality it wouldn't work as we'd have no surgeons and lots of stackers!
  7. For me it would be €107: it’s out of stock for now, but they say they’ll be getting more stock monthly.
  8. Can't believe this hasn't been snapped up yet!! These are excellent basses. I've had one and also the much more expensive Music Man version. To be honest there wasn't that much difference in terms of playability and the sounds were slightly different but IMHO equally good. In fact, there are some Talkbass members who prefer the 'voice' of the SBMM. AND I think the black/tort combo really looks the business. Add to that the lightweight tuners to counterbalance the very light body weight of this one (mine was heavier)... If I had the spare cash right now I'd be buying this. GLWTS.
  9. I don’t see many till operators sacrificing much of their youth studying for all hours, going into tremendous debt then later in life missing out on their kids growing up, working until the early hours, taking decisions that can lead to death or serious injury with all the stress that comes with this. I would quit my job tomorrow, let alone have spent all the hours and money to even get where I am if I could earn the same serving coffee. The people I know who earn more have sacrificed more, more time, more money, more stress and more risk. They deserve the extra. I started on the path and decided it wasn’t for me.
  10. Allow me to fix that possibility, then...
  11. Years in the making! This is the complete Anthony Jackson part for the tune 'We Three' from the 1986 Michel Camilo recording, 'Suntan'. This stuff is so challenging! Thanks to Gareth Hughes for the mp3. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/we-three-michel-camilo/
  12. Nice one centurion…
  13. Why..? Do pilots and surgeons need to eat more than till operators..? I'd have them paid for their hours of training, but at the same hourly rate as everyone else on the Planet. They would get more, yes, but cannot 'earn' more than 24 hours in any one day, whoever they are, and whatever they do.
  14. Without wishing to derail the discussion, does anyone have any more 'themselves as muppets' pics?
  15. Dunno if this is helpful, but we did have a thread last year: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/498002-fanny/#comment-5285120
  16. In my band the singer gets the balance of drums/guitars/Bass/keys if I’m playing them for some numbers right, then he comes back into band to sing and then one of the guitarists will check singer against rest of band. Last gig I did that even though I was bass. it works and recordings posted on facebook or sent by members of the audience show it’s not far out.
  17. Or the Fender Extortocaster?
  18. Everything Must Go - Manic Street Preachers
  19. Fender Tariffcaster perhaps?
  20. The Man Who Sold The World - Bowie
  21. Thanks for the heads up. I think I’ve just ordered the last set in stock
  22. Magnificent band. Should have been huge.
  23. John is that he always had an extremely dry sense of humour and rarely seemed entirely at ease in interviews, although if you see clips of him talking in the 70s he seems a lot more relaxed and easy-going. By this time his hearing was seriously impaired and having read his biography it seems he found situations like this quite hard work and could appear a bit withdrawn. As for his playing/tone, he always has and always will be the absolute guvnor for me. As much as I adore Chris Squire, Geddy et al, they're all standing on John's shoulders. And it should be noted, he never had the one tone, at least not until his senior years. He changed his sound quite a bit.
  24. There's probably a whole lotta wrong in the branding/marketing (it was 1971), but shit they could play, and play a whole lot better than a whole lot of all-male bands that had far more success 👍
  25. Communication with seller is a bit hard 🙄 so I don't want to ask him for an extra neck plate pic. If I finally get it I'll be back in this thread for further infos. I'm curious to identify this creature.
