  1. Past hour
  2. Small crowd of smiling dancing people. Happy bar manager who asks when can we come back
  3. While waiting for the Anagram’s next firmware update for full MIDI support, I just got this Pirate MIDI Aero. Easy to setup and the editor is really nice. Currently using it to cycle on my 3 fave presets. Will program it later for more flexibility. Current state of the board.
  4. We're playing on Saturday, you'll love it.
  5. Maybe, but the rest was clearly a jape. It was a big AVR, I've had other Atmel chips usually in antistatic bags or boxes.
  6. I put a £20 set of flats on my MIM Jazz on Tuesday night and so far, they’re actually pretty good. I’m pleased to say that the bridge pickup didn’t instantly stop working the minute they were fitted too, and when I picked it up on Wednesday, it hadn’t turned into a P Bass 🙏
  7. Obviously can't speak to this specific example but you'd be surprised how much of that is manufacturer mandated - semiconductor suppliers are, to put it politely, a high maintenance bunch. A few of them dictate very specific terms to us, including that all products must be shipped in manufacturer supplied packaging - with waffle trays this sometimes means we have to stick one chip in a whole tray...
  8. Exactly how I feel. I find flats uncomfortable.
  9. I've bottled it. I'm taking a Jazz with LaBella flats on it. One of the guys who comes to the jam likes to do a bit of Jaco, and I can't get that tone out of a P. The P with rounds is now hung in the lounge, so it's going to get played every day until I feel it's right......or not.
  10. I'm off out being the house bass player at a funk jam tonight. I had toyed with the idea of taking a P bass with recently installed rounds (which I don't normally use), but have settled on a Jazz with LaBella flats, just because I don't get to play the jazz live so much, and it just sounds great with these strings on it. I agree with @Misdee too, amps have much more influence/affect over tone than they used to. Tonight I will be using a GK Legacy 800 into a Barefaced cab, and I'm very much looking forward to it.
  11. Is the song by The Jam on the advert 'Helicopter' by Bloc Party? Admittedly the first part of the opening riff is a complete rip off of 'Set The House Ablaze' by The Jam
  12. All very well to have high principles if you can afford them, but most of us have to make a living. Talk of "selling out" is usually uttered by those who don't have to worry about where their next penny is coming from. The equation of time/effort invested vs. income received works out heavily against most musicians (and artists generally). I made sure I always kept a day job, so I could pick and choose what I played. Fair play to anyone who manages to make a living out of art of any kind. Sure, I think stuff like Tracy Emin's unmade bed and similar is tripe, but she and people like her have beaten the odds and actually made a decent living out of her art, so fair play to them.
  13. Love that picture of the cavity. I am looking at mine and trying to figure where the pickup wires need to go. Looks like thet all go that first switch. Any way you could post better picture of the switch with white green red and block wires coming from the pickup so I can see where each goes ?
  14. You've also got to bear in mind, modern amps and cabs can make any bass with flats sound different to the olden days when valves and boomy cabs were the only option. There's an awful lot of hi-fi bass rigs about nowadays that can give a much more precise and detailed version of the flatwounds sound. That clarity, power and punch can negate some of the reasons why bassists ditched those strings in favour of roundwounds.
  15. Small update - frets have been levelled and recrowned. I think the neck did need it, the fret material didn't come off universally so I hope i made an improvement. Also, French polish arrived from @kodiakblair - legend, cheers!
  16. I actually prefer a direct sale, but it always depends. Maybe you can send me your ideas via pm.
  17. Today
  18. Oh my days... and just down the road too!!!
  19. These ones: https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/jim-dunlop-flatwound-bass-strings-45-105-stainless-steel-short-scale These are brand new and never fitted, packet never opened. They are £80 new. I bought them for my Lionel but I'm really happy with the ancient rounds I've got on it so these are available. Selling for £50 including delivery ono.
  20. Selling this barely used Hipshot USA Ultralite Xtender key. Y key in satin finish. 1/2 inch post size. £70 in delivery in the UK.
  21. Would have hoped I’d get my preorder notification but nothing yet.
  22. Adequate pay is essential for me. I use to always prefer using my own rig. However at 71 years old I'll use whatever they provide. Daryl
  23. Shakin' All Over - Johnny Kidd & The Pirates
  24. That seems to be the consensus Gjones. Daryl
  25. A 1.5hr covers set on a stage with enough room, good monitoring and an engineer who knows their apples. A hundred or so enthusiastic punters and some nice comments afterwards. I don't need a backline provided (I'd rather play on my own gear; old fashioned, I know....) or anything flashy. Payment is nice but not essential. That's about it, really.
  26. Ah cool. Keeps things interesting if nothing else. Yes great guys in there but the shown stock isn't a true reflection. There's a bass I sold there on commission recently that's still not marked as sold yet either 😅 Enjoy the Elrick. You in a way echoed my sentiments about the Bart pickups.
