  1. Past hour
  2. Haha, not just me then! And yeah, very happy with it after rehearsal yesterday - we did a bit of recording, and it sounded great both live and on the recording, really clear and punchy. Rest of the band very impressed with it too, so happy days all round. Still need to double-check my starting position carefully every time, but we're getting there!
  3. Ash - Walnut- Maple
  4. is that oak/walnut/maple neck ?
  5. That's works with me, I'll send you a PM with the details.
  6. Aye, she’s off doing a graphic design course of some ilk at college in September… All the kids are doing great. Just makes me chuckle that Ell’a birthday is also my Basschat anniversary too 😆
  7. Seen pics on Facebook of some of the Brookes 12 strings, and they look amazing. Overwater recently posted a pic of a custom 8 string they were building, and that one looked really cool too. Doesn't help my itch for an 8 string one little bit!
  8. Thanks Tony...
  9. Thanks anyway I’ve sorted the issue I think anyway. I put a Spirocore A & E on my old French bass and realise I still hate them, they’re just so numb and uninspiring to play and sound is choked and compressed on my bass. I put my Chorda CH A & E back on my bass and she’s come back to life my only issue with them is tuning stability, wrapped gut and staying in tune just doesn’t work, Olive’s are the same but I can live that for the sound and feel. Spirocore Weichs = Yikes for my bass.
  10. Just came across this... really interesting recordings. To my ears thought the Caveman really stood out. I don't know if it is something to do with the headphones I am using but the Caveman gave a really super solid bass - almost in a way like the thud you can get when you hear bass live in a bigger venue. It did seem to lose some clarity in the treble/upper mids but to my mind this was more than compensated for by its reproduction of bass!
  11. Thanks for your message. I guess it is a type of basil wood as I wasn’t aware that there were different types. I have another Brazil wood bow and this bow is much much different in grain to the other and in weight. The other bow is confirmed as brasilwood as I know who made it, I’m just shocked there’s such a difference despite being the ‘same’ if there are any other woods anyone can think of please let me know! cheers all
  12. Time marches on. Our two turned 18 this year, and have both passed their driving tests, so we see even less of them! One is off to Uni in September, the other is back to college on a music course and being in as many bands as he can (drummer). More importantly, they've turned into decent people. You must be immensely proud of all your kids @AndyTravis.
  13. I Gouda Known Better - Jim Diamond
  14. Today
  15. Totally agree. I read the insurance small print when I was going to send a vintage Fender jazz and, in the end, it was easier and safer for me to drive it to Cardiff. In my most recent sales on here I’ve taken images as the bass has been packed and images of the box (like you have!) I guess the insurers will say the onus is on you to prove that the bass was in good condition before it was sent and that’s what the images do. You also need to establish a fair value and so on. Insurance is always a gamble, but if you follow their rules you give yourself the best chance. I say this after toe convoluted, but ultimately successful, insurance claims this year. (One we had to get the UK consulate involved, but that’s another story.)
  16. Bump - Next in line for the eBay treatment if this doesn't go on here...
  17. Thanks LOWDOWN amazing just my thing, something to aim for
  18. I'll Be Edammed - AC/DC
  19. A couple of "fine pernambuco" bows. The top one is at least 80 years old, probably a lot older but it was made so thin that the wood cracked near the top. The bottom one is lovely wood, but it feels like lead in the hand! The thing to note is that thin even grain.
  20. Whereabouts in Warwickshire ?
  21. Hi, sadly not sorry…my string drawer is getting empty…
  22. Used a couple of times in excellent condition £60 plus postage
