    I'm sorry, but your not drilling into end-grain argument is nonsense. A dowel is going to be made from hardwood like beech, oak or maple and from a strength perspective is likely stronger than the wood you're going to be glueing it in to. It's not going to crack or split if you drill out the proper sized hole for the screw you're installing.

    Thanks for posting such a comprehensive and useful review - much appreciated! I have just taken delivery of a new D400 - I'm a long time PJB Flightcase combo and wanted to move into separate head and cabs and your review confirmed my thoughts about this particular head. I'd be interested to hear more about your experience with the compressor as it seems to sound and behave differently to the one built into the Flightcase. On the surface both compressors look identical and are described identically in their respective manuals, but the compressor on my new D400 initially didn't seem to be doing much, even when turned all the way up (anticlockwise). On my old Flightcase, cranking up the compressor definitely squished the sound and audibly reduced the dynamic range. On the D400, when turned up it seems to give the sound a little boost and makes the definition of the notes stand out more - almost making them "3D", but certainly not the heavily compressed sound I was used to before. Does this chime with your experience? Thanks again! Andy

    I'm using a Sennheiser EW-D guitar wireless system and a Sennheiser XSW IEM wireless system. The guitar wireless receiver and IEM transmitter are housed next to each other in the same 2U rack. I've no experience with AKG equipment. Provided that you aren't using the same frequency for both systems you should be fine. Any performance issues will more likely to due to the quality of system you use and/or environment (i.e. other devices competing for the same frequency band). Do you have any particular concerns or questions about using both types of system together?

    One of those "You really can't work it out, sell your basses you moron" questions, but what notes are the very last two bars of Peaches? The penultimate two are |D# A# C# |A# A# A# G# F# | but the next two are a tone higher that I can't find.

    OK I know it's not strictly PA but I'll make a fair bet that the poor s*ds that do the PA get lighting duty as well Just got these, well strictly speaking I just bought the last four. I've had two for a while that I use as static lights to illuminate the band, they come with diffusers as well as clear fronts so they don't blind you if you use the diffuser. I lent two of them to a friend for a party and he used a sound to light program I'd never tried which works like a giant sound level meter. They are sold as PureSound Pixel Bar Switch. They look white in the video but that's because my phone couldn't capture the colours as it was saturated by the light levels, you can see the colour changes in the room. They are obviously programmed to follow the drums and seem to be fairly good at following the tempo. The plan is to use them on stands on stage so that they lift the light levels in the louder sections and fall away in any stops or quieter passages and create better dynamcs than the more usual chase sequencers. I've been trying various lights hapharzardly for a while and never been happy so this is an atteempt to up my game by actually planning the lighting. Forgive the mess, I'd just spent an hour making up some decent length leads with UK plugs instead of the 1.5m euro leads supplied Short clip.MOV

    For anyone wondering these are fantastic instruments and this is a great price. I’m sure the fingerboard damage could be easily repaired by a luthier. If I didn’t have one already I’d be on my way up to Leeds right now…

    Doesn’t make a difference to the end product but does to a lot of customers. Some customers have built up trust with the Mexican product and therefore may feel more comfortable than buying an instrument from Asia. Not to costs and price

Alternatively try before you buy in Benfleet, Essex.

    Any experience using wireless guitar systems alongside wireless IEM systems? We already use Shure PSM300 wireless IEM system and would like to introduce wireless guitars and eventually microphones. Slightly cautious that there would be too much going on and they would interfere with each other? Any thoughts from anyone who’s used/uses both? Also, has anyone any experience with the AKG WMS40 Mini Dual Guitar systems? These look like a good option due to only needing one main ‘hub’ but I’ve had bad experiences with cheaper wireless systems in the past and wondered if anyone can recommend the AKG stuff? Thanks Alex

    Yamaha SLB300 Silent Bass bought new at the beginning of lockdown and played extensively since: you'll know what you are looking at! However, I was playing it with a (lovely) swing band in an overheated venue when I fainted, coming to a couple of minutes later with the bass on top me. It survived remarkably well, still fully functional though the fall took out a set of Evah Pirazzi Weich strings and bent a tuning machine, both now replaced so fitted with a set of new as originally supplied Helicore Hybrid Lights. However, the fingerboard did strike the edge of the stage on the way down and this has left some denting (see photograph) - fortunately, it lies midway between the fourth and fifth finger positions so it has no impact on tuning and negligible impact on playability and is barely visible on a stage. However, the bass is priced accordingly. Only selling because getting a replacement tuning machine from Yamaha took so long that I had to buy a second SLB300 to be able to keep playing... Any questions, just ask!

    As @fretmeister said, and of course always document your packing process with photos that you send to the recipient and keep records of all photos of the instruments before shipping for insurance purposes, so you can confirm its condition. I've literally sent hundreds of parcels worldwide with only two problems: A stolen parcel in the unlocked French Post delivery van and a totally damaged parcel by Parcel Force. Both were fully insured and fully reimbursed after a full inquiry. In fact, making a real bomb proof parcel takes a lot of time as nothing must be able to move, and everything must be highly protected. At the moment, DPD has lost a parcel I was waiting and has misdirected parcels so many times that's it's ridiculous. And remember that the cheapest courier is certainly not the best.

    Reading your message, I just realised my mistake - I was operating the wrong way round. I should have had my rails/fences/guides on the opposite side, so if I wandered, I wandered into the material I was removing anyway, not the stuff I wanted to keep. FFS! What a moron. I really am living up to my username.
