Congrats on the purchase.

Cheers! It arrived this morning, beautifully packed and perfectly playable despite the bits that need attention. The cracking around the skunk stripe seems minor and is stable as far as I can tell. I think it's more related to very minor damp damage, where condenation's entered a lacquer crack, caused lifting and spread a bit. There's minor damage of this sort around the tuner screws too.

Will get some pics sorted and start a NBD thread - but on first impressions I'm delighted with it - it's a proper, replica-standard, genuinely mojo'd 70s rock machine, and far more interesting than anything with "Fender" on the end!

1982 Westone Thunder MkII. Guy doesn't know what it is by the look of his advert. Through neck, twin split coils. Starting at £40, collection only Guildford. Someone might get a bargain.

Boo! You beat me to it by literally seconds. Was having a long discussion about these and 'joodee'and this was found as an example of the strange truss rod adjuster on that family of basses. I post a link to it saying was it worth buying and two seconds later boom its gone!

Atleast I know its going to a good home ha!

I hope you enjoy it, let us know how good it is (so I can be jealous of my awful timing).

Edit: Maybe I can babysit one of your basses your 'moving on' :-P but seriously great buy!

My friend Mark is selling a very similar Joodee in Exeter if you're interested

I have a Stingray SUB USA I need to rehome but if I manage to sell it before its gone I'm planning on buying marks Joodee.

Easy bloke to deal with too!

The best thing about Mark is that if he gets something you like, you know you can get a chance to buy it a week or so later.
All my current stock of guitar amps came from him over the last twenty odd years.

Actually, surprisingly nice.

I have a fretless one, lovely to play and a real round, deifined and woody sound.

The tuners on mine aren't great and I keep meaning to get them sorted.

£175 is perhaps a little on the steep side.

They are not rare and come up quite often.

Cheers. :)

Also, absolutely not, in any way, shape or form, Japanese. KoreaDiarrhoea, through & through.

Decent enough, I had one for a bit, very solidly built. Downsides - neck like a treetrunk and very, very heavy. Also the through-neck means that some of these can have an unadjustably high action - mine had had rough routing under the bridge to make it playable. This one looks OK but it's hard to tell from the pics.

As Eric says, they are common - I wouldn't want to pay north of £100.

Funnily enough £99 was what they cost brand-new in 1980 - I distinctly remember trying one in my local shop, being impressed by the build & playability, and being too much of a snotty little brand-snob to entertain the faintest idea of owning something with "Satellite" on the end.

Ooeerrr

I paid £123.45, for mine - one of those "unusual bids" on ebay.

Still think I did very well - nice to play. :D :D :D

In fairness, factory fretless ones aren't as common, so probably worth £23.45 more.

My "odd bids" always end with £6.66. Dunno what that says about me. :D

Rather nice 8 string version of an Ibanez Studio bass.

Daion/Yamaki/Joodee spotters should keep an eye on this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172106587098

Identical to the one I picked up a couple of weeks back, but in much better general condition, Joodee on the headstock & original pickup.

Comes with a spare neck because the truss geabox on the original is borked. However, having dismantled mine, the box unscrews and it would be child's play to just stick a nut on the threaded rod end & adjust it with a spanner.

Someone might end up getting a better deal than I did...

Spotted this neat Gibson copy earlier, and it looks nice. I can't help but think that if he flipped the machine heads upside down they'd be a better fit.

If he'd left the originals on (these are an "upgrade") they'd have been a better fit.

Pickup looks like a Dimarzio Model G. Probably doesn't justify the ambitious price tag though.

No doubt, he says he'll include them and I'd be inclined to put them back on if the price were a bit more reasonable.
