My fear in all this is that the hats will come in the same eye-jarring garish colour schemes as the FleaBasses themselves, making it appear as if the wearer has dipped their head into a vat of nuclear waste.

It's been talked about elsewhere on the forum, but those basses really are hideous in colour, sound, and quality. Such a shame as I love the Chilis and find Flea himself pretty entertaining in interviews.

"I therefore invite the tight-fisted, gap-toothed, faux-psychotic, fanboy-exploiting fret-masher to pack his cash-filled Hermes bags and shag off home to his adoring acolytes, thus avoiding the likelihood of having a tightly-rolled item of headwear rammed up his Sheriff's badge"

Possibly not a fan then?

The basses the nicest colours ever, but when I was 14 I would have loved one to go with my highly attractive multi-coloured ski jacket and classy trainers. The prices aren't too bad either. I reckon they'll be a good starter bass, certainly far better than the piece o' crap that I started on for not much cheaper.
Apart from the bit about his missus as I don't know whether she's a munter or not.
A long and intimate experience of Rock Stars' brides and partners suggests to me that she will be a maiden of pulchritudinous aspect and bountiful charms. She will not be a "munter".

By strange coincidence, this thread occurs not long after an event that took place during my recent diplomatic trip to Seattle. I was attending a reception at the home of my good friend Mr Bill Gates where, on observing my entrance, a certain lady was heard to remark:

" I do declare! Who is that long, handsome cove? A sporting Gentleman with a prodigious manhood, I'll be bound!"

Being informed of this, I promptly introduced myself and led her to the buffet, where, clearing a space amid the crab claws, we gave ourselves to pleasurable abandon. Matters being satisfactorily completed, I recognised the crestfallen fellow watching us from the doorway as being Mr Flea's bandmate John Frusciante.

"Why Mr Frusciante," I cried. "I expect you will soon be departing, for I have indeed most thoroughly packed your baggage!"

How we both laughed as he scampered from the room, tail between his legs. Should Mrs Flea and I ever chance to meet, the sensible money would be on a similar outcome.
I imagine that after a couple of minutes watching all the corporate BS ,people would be itching to get out.
Do they sell fridges there?
Says it all, what a load of wa*k. Of all the places to do a PA with a bass guitar...

OK he wants to hit the youth market, fair enough, but how many of them shop at Selfridges? Despite my respect for his playing and what he and the band have given to music, I can't help thinking he's a sad parody of what he used to be, and, arguably, what he should still be. Lte's face it, Squier are doing a far better job for almost half the price.

I rate Flea as one of my major influences, but my message to him now is this; have the balls to show up at a decent music shop, avoid the corporate crap and hang with real musos and you might sleep better at night and make better music than has been the case recently (did you really enjoy playing the sh*t you put down on stadium Arcadium)? You've got enough cash not to need to rip off the most naive sector of the market with sh*t instruments, so get back to MM or Modulus and develop a decent instrument. I'd love the idea of the economy Flea Bass if it wasn't a) too expensive, :) apparently not very good, and c) marketed through w*nk shops like Selfridges.

Hooray! Well put, Chris. Stadium Arcadium was taken off my iPod recently to make room for Black Joe Louis and the Honeybears and some more Ryan Adams.

The photos of Flea wirth all those ectatic kids makes me cringingly sick.

Well put, Chris.
However the Fleabass is not aimed at the yoof market, It's aimed at well off parents ie Selfridges customers.

Lylodile, give us a review buddy, and put this whole thing to rest :)

You do have a way with words Mr S.D.!

"Work well lest I cast you into my dungeon, whenceforth none do come."

Lylodile! Notwithstanding my earlier spoofy joshing (I don't actually dislike Mr Flea at all), I hope you heartily enjoy your new bass!

FWIW, I'd think about getting that Sig oversprayed in clear by a decent tech, so's it doesn't get rubbed off.
Haha thanks. It's good so far.

Yeah I was thinking of getting it sprayed. Dunno how I would go about it though.

I'd definitely think about getting a pro refinisher (not the local guitar tech) to do it - not necessarily the whole body, maybe just the area in question. Knowing what type of pen was used to sign it is fairly crucial - see here: http://www.ehow.com/how_4866104_preserve-a...hed-guitar.html

Here's some stuff on DIY autograph preservation:

Clear gloss nitro is available from Manchester Guitar Tech:

Try googling variations on - guitar autograph preservation refinish spray - there's quite a lot of info out there. In the meantime, you could stick some clear contact film over the sig to keep it safe.

I for one would be grateful for a sensible review of the bass, as the Mrs has bought me one for Xmas, and everybody else seems to be jumping on the "they're sh*t" bandwagon.

Ok, there are QC issues, but how does it play/sound? I like pimping basses, so an EMG and a brass nut will surely go on mine anyway at some point anyway. The idea is to hand it on to my daughter in a handful of years when she's a bit older because she'd love one.
