WESTONE PORN THREAD

I searched for but did not find a dedicated Westone thread. Please correct me if I'm wrong. (I know there is the 'JapCrap Spotting' thread).
Therefore, here for your viewing pleasure is the Westone Porn Thread.
This could be a rather thin thread compared to others on here, but let's see what you have, or had! :)

My two current Westie's to kick things off.

Westone Thunder II (active) and the darker Westone Thunder II (active) fretless:

(Now trying to find some decent pics of my old black Thunder IA fretless).

Was very tempted to buy one earlier this year, a smidge over £100, and looked the part. Unfortunately, it would have probably just collected dust as I found it a little heavy. Still great looking though.

A none bass playing ( and for that matter technically a non musician, I think you know what I mean) person I know seems to find it endlessly amusing that Westies are so highly thought of. Tw4t.

Many thanks for the compliment, Witterth, but Fred's "Rail" was a seriously cool bass. The whole point of the rail-based pickup was you could adapt it for so many different bass sounds just by sliding the pickup along the "rail." Such a simple idea, but very effective. I've been waiting for one to come up for sale on here for a long time now. It will come...

Cant think why this sliding pickup thing never really took off shame really.

I've been watching this 1985 'Super Headless' which is in a non-standard purple colour.
Great condition with the original case, it just went for a tad over £300!

They're certainly not! :)
I'm just watching this Thunder 3 on ebay; just hours to run and currently at £317 (7 bids).
I wonder if it'll end up with a BC'er?

Aha, I might be able to help.

I have two of these, one in it's original silver soft case.
Big sound and the sliding pup allows you to hear how important pick-up positioning is.
Not as light as you would think - weighs around 6lbs, from memory.
Fun thing and is a serious bass but never dared to gig them.
I took my Gordy Headless to a gig, just after Christmas - I can still hear the ringing of the
laughter from the lads in the band
What the **** is that - it's got no head!!
I, erm - pretended not to be hurt!

I may be letting one or both of them go as I saw one recently fetch about £350!!! Wow!
I keep looking at them but just can't seem to pluck up the courage.
The lads seem to think that unless I have at least 10lbs of wood
hanging around my neck, it won't sound any good. :)

Will keep you posted.

Cheers.
I want one! I've been looking for one of those for a while...
Here are the pics.
This is the nicer one of the two, the other is more of a "Road Warrior"
I have played this one today - the first time for ages!!!!!
What a surprise. Whisper quiet electrics, HUGE tonal range, big sound
and plays like a knife through butter!
These are quite rare - I guess even more rare with the case. . . and the
distributors label!!!
This one is a keeper.
The other one has a missing tuner knob, which I can sort - this one will be
up for grabs.
I don't need two but after having a go today, I have realised what a great
recording tool this is.
Move the pup 10mm this way or 10mm that - it makes a LOT of difference.

Here are the two together.
Lightening fast to play and loose nothing to the bottom end due to the shorter scale.
Great fun. :)

I've always Gassed over the Thunder II Fretless basses. Gorgeous looking basses. I remember seeing Steve Brzezicki playing one when i saw him in Fish's band on the vigil in a wilderness of mirrors tour. Outstanding sounding bass loads of mmmwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I really should take these puppies out on a gig again soon. :)
I didn't see the tour but I do have the 'Vigil...' album. For me, 'Cliche' is one of his best-ever songs.
