  2. Hi guys, it's been quite a while since I was last on here, so I've missed quite a lot of what's been going on. So apologies in advance if this has been covered before or I've miss the thread etc! Just a bit of a catch up and just wondering if anyone else has bought the new Tanglewood Roadster TWRB E ukelele bass like I have? Managed to get mine for £160 and love it. A real nice alternative to the Kala model. It's a bit cheaper in make and feel, but tonally sounds fantastic. [/quote] There's your problem, you're using the on board mic which is designed for phone calls only. You need to consider an external iPhone mic like the Tascam iM2 if you're going to stick to this route. It's a good solution, but for the money you'd spend on the mic you could put it towards a dedicated field recorder like the Zoom H1.
  4. The iPhone is certainly capable of making good quality audio recordings with an external mic like the Tascam iM2, but as 51mon states, it's not strictly designed for that task. Providing you can secure the phone to reduce vibration into the microphone you're using, remember to put the phone in to aeroplane mode to help reduce static interference, and stop the phone going to sleep mode when inactive, the phone will work well. It's certainly not a substitute for the 'real deal' when it comes to hand held recorders, but as a quick go to solution when nothing else is at hand it can work very well.

  6. I'm a user of both the Zoom H1 and H2, both exceptional bits of kit for very little money. I also use a Tascam iM2 on my iPhone when required. Again, a great bit of kit for very little money. For simple uses like recording jam sessions, gigs or quick jotting down of ideas, the Zoom devices will excel in that department. The Tascam for the iPhone is great when I need to quickly get an idea down or record something of interest out in the field. Provided it's not a massively long track, it's a great go to solution when you have nothing else to hand. I also have the Boss Micro BR, and have never really got on with it. Maybe it's time to go back to it and try again.
  7. Played the C-Fab Festival in a beautiful farmstead near to Caister in Lincolnshire on Friday. A beautiful part of the world and a lovely chilled music event, one I hope to repeat again. The sound guys were ace, a fella called Snake if memory serves correctly. Not only a good sound tech but very helpful with gear and such. The band played well and the crowd was great. While the little 1x10 combo is out of your price range, the [url="http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p3115_promethean_combo.htm"]1x15[/url] combo isn't and comes in at £300. That said however, there are the Promethean copies from [url="http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-BT5110-500W-Bass-Amp/C61"]Red Sub[/url] too which come in at £299. So a 500 watt detachable head in a 1x10 combo, matchable with other cabs should you need it.

  11. iRealB is fantastic, having so many charts that can be transposed in realtime is a blessing. However, since I bought the app originally, they no longer include all the charts with the app, this is for legal reasons. The app only now comes with 50 generic charts, you have to download the charts from the forum if you want them. I have the preference file saved separately on my Mac so I can always reinstall all of them should I lose the app. You do this through iTunes with the iPad or iPhone connected. PM me if anyone is interested in the file and I'll send it to you.

  13. There's nothing wrong with buying cheap gear. In fact, I think quite a few BC-ers would be in agreement that the standard of budget gear has shot through the roof in recent years and can, in some cases, make very worthwhile investments. Like any budget instrument, you'll get good ones and bad ones. So if you're concerned about the quality, maybe get yourself down to a local music shop and try out some budget gear there. Look out for names like Jim Deacon, Richwood, Eastcoast, Stagg etc. Most, if not all of them are made in the same factories, just with different names on. You may end up paying a bit more than Thomann, but it's better in my opinion to do this as you know exactly what you're getting as you've played it before hand.
  14. Even though it feels painful now, you'll learn far more from this one bad gig, than loads and loads of amazing gigs. It helps to keep you grounded and focused and keeps you sharp. You and your band will be far better next time as a result of this experience.

  17. It's all about entertainment right? SO as long as the band/act is good, that's all that matters. One interesting thought I had on this topic. Has anyone ever done a tribute act to something none mainstream? For example, a jazz tribute to say Miles Davis' classic quartet that recorded Kind Of Blue? Or something equally obscure?

  19. It's bloody difficult isn't it? I'm in the same situation, playing in a covers band for pocket money. If it's a very local gig we'll go out for £30 per head plus travel expenses. It then goes up from there to about usually £50 per head depending on distances etc. Occasionally we do charge more, but that's only for gigs that are way off the radar, and that's rare for us. The band ranges in size from a four piece to a seven piece.

  21. Did a nice little 45 minute set last night at the Belgrave in Darwen with none other than Gary Boyle of Isotope fame. Such a great guy with loads of great stories and anecdotes... as a well as being a s*** hot guitarist of course.
