Clarky
This is an example of the type of 70s Precision I am definitely NOT after! Happy Jack
Somehow, "roadworn" doesn't seem to do justice to this degree of wear ...

sgt-pluck
I would Mind you, Fender QA around that time wasn't at it's peak by all accounts - that one has been well loved though. Pluck

Beedster
There's a school of thought that says the worn ones are the good ones. There's another school of thought that says you shouldn't take a sander to your already slightly mojo'd bass. It could be the sweetetst Precision ever, it could be a dog, but the wear looks unusual to me?

Go back to Relic School, pal. For whatever reason, people do seem to be prepared to pay fairly silly money for once-derided CBS-era Fenders, but why would anyone think that 20 minutes with the wet & dry will make them pay even more? I agree to the school of thought of worn ones being good ones, Especially when its happened to a custom shop bass Then again the fretless is probably the best fretless i have ever played. Bassassin
The more I look at this, the more faked it looks. You can see the real wear - eg the little dark patch in the middle of the bare wood on the back shot & the rubbed & grimy-looking areas on the front. The rest's been scratched & flaked off by the looks of it. And someone should tell him that "plenty of fret wear" isn't a desirable sign of relic'ing! J. Cat Burrito
The EMG pickup looks a bit, well, silly on that bass. Should've scuffed that up a bit too!

Clarky
Paradoxically I think your bass is lovely! Sell it to me now!!!!! The eBay bass looks like (as Bassassin points out) someone has deliberately flaked off large areas of paintwork in a very unauthentic way. AndyTravis
i love the 'Yes, thats right, it's 34 years old' bit, as if from the approx 1975 date point, we'd struggle to count back. It's the 'real deal' ahem. NUFF SAID! Why does it feel like if you bought this bass your wallet may well be missing by the end of the transaction? AndyTravis
although, kingof... You bass is stupidly pretty! Why did the guy on ebay not just leave his to age like this? Anyhow, a grand saved is a grand to go elsewhere. Edited October 31, 2009 by AndyTravis
ahpook
i have to agree and say that wear looks very suspect.

EssentialTension
What's really good about it is that there's 'PLENTY OF FRET WEAR'.
kingofthestuntmen
Thanks for the nice comments guys, and I'm pretty sure mine is 'genuine' as it was bought in '89 looking exactly like it does today.. Except for the Badass, of course.
doctorbass
Looks like typical 70s Fender paint flaking to me. The early paint/poly finishes tend to come off like that ( the ploy on the natural finishes doesnt)- not very pretty, but could play and sound good......
