Does anyone else take their basses to weird places for photos?

Hi all,

I've been a long-time low-end lurker and finally have something to share. I have a bit of an obsession with photographing bass guitars in places they definitely don't belong (like an abandoned basement for fruit storage) This one here is a close-up of my Fender Japan Mustang Bass CIJ - The lighting in this basement was too good to pass up.

I've actually started documenting my basses and these "strange places" over at my website because I couldn't get the idea out of my head. Curious to know if anyone else here does on-location shoots?

If you want to see all the basement photos, here's the direct link: https://bassesinstrangeplaces.com/bass-journeys/the-old-orchard-basement-storage/

Back in 2011 one of the guitar blogs at the time was asking for photos for a page a month calendar with a free calendar for those whose photos were chosen.

I got up very early one August morning and went into Nottingham city centre, when it was just light but hardly anyone was about, to take these two (amongst many others) which were selected:

I don't, but I should - I tend to photograph mine (individually) on backgrounds of brightly-coloured fluffy fabric, or more recently on a rainbow rug!

Request thread title change to 'Basses In Strange Places' & let's make it a thing!

that looks unusually clean for anywhere in Nottingham. I’d be expecting to see vomit, and maybe squashed kebab ?

Cool. You've got something that feeds ya head.

I get as far as the garden, up against the fence...

Picture 2 is disqualified as the title is about “basses” and that clearly isn’t one.

puzzled that the cuckoo has so many frets though

Love the black fretless bass (photographed lying on a public seat/bench ?). Can you tell me what make/model it is please. I don't recognise it. Looks a very cool instrument 😍

IMO Nottingham has an undeserved less than good reputation.

However looking back at the the second photo I should have spent I bit more time Photoshopping out all the fag ends on the ground.

The first photo is of a Born 2 Rock F4B bass guitar.

The second photo is a Gus G3 4-string fretless bass.

I no longer own either bass but I still have my two Gus G3 5-string fretted basses which are my main basses when I'm not playing Bass VIs.

...I suppose this is the bass players equivalent of "guitars and girls" threads (from guitar forums), apart from as bass players we can't find the girls... 🥲 !
