Not knowing much about him I just listened to Everyday Is Like Sunday, it’s not  bad really , maybe a bit like Oasis where just a few songs is enough for me

There are bands that I find incredibly frustrating. They seem like really cool people that I’d happily have a pint with, and they are obviously incredibly talented.

The only two that have sprung into my currently addled mind, are Behemoth and the Foo Fighters. I really enjoy Foo Fighters music videos, but the music… other than Monkey Wrench. Blah! Another band is Radiohead. I like the song creep but I can’t stand anything else they’ve done. Again, they had quite cool videos, so I would watch them, but on mute.

Agree on both counts. Both bands clearly have something but whatever it is it’s lost on me :(

So following on from the Morrisey hate expressed on here a by quite a lot of members who clearly dislike the guy.May i ask why that is ?What has he actually done or said to curry this hate. I genuinely don't know so i thought id ask.

Well to be honest from my perspective anyway it was a joke ! Of course I don’t ‘hate’ him! I’ve never met the bloke! Just have always found his voice irritating. But! As others have said musically speaking the smiths had some great moments.

People who call Basses 'Guitars' are clearly wrong (or chronically uneducated), as our hallowed instrument was designed as a more portable alternative to the Double Bass. Therefore it's an Electric Bass.

You destroyed all my childhood memories by demonstrating they were actually made of MDF.  Pah. Thanks Frank. 😞

It does seem to me to be a core part of the British psyche to diss anything popular and / or successful.   Having been on here since it was BassWorld, I soon noticed that any new thread posted about the Beatles, Stones, Ric basses, Wal basses etc will pretty much instantly attract a post(s) about how utter crap they are, as if it were a self-evident truth.

There are some bands who if they're played on the radio I have to turn it straight off - UB40 come to mind - but I can appreciate why they'd appeal to a lot of people.   Morrisey may well indeed be a complete dick, but to me he's a fantastic singer and talented songwriter.   I'm generally not a huge fan of Wetherspoons, but whenever Mrs S and I go to Brecon we always have lunch at The George, an attractive and convivial 18th Century coaching Inn - and part of Wetherspoons.  Haven't found anywhere better.....yet.

I guess it would be a dull old world if absolutely everything -as that Paul Whitehouse character in the "Fast Show" was always saying - was Fantastic and Brilliant......:i-m_so_happy:

"Sugar sugar" famously offered to The Monkees of course, who refused it as saccharine commercial bollocks, then given to fictional cartoon band The Archies (session musicians I assume) who made it a massive global hit

Sometimes saying something is rubbish it isn't just an opinion; it can be a quantifiably true statement.

As an example my newly acquired 'made in China' Modern player starcaster bass is a lovely instrument to play now that I've slung on a set of LaBella flats and set it up, however it came from the factory fitted with one of the flimsy cheapo output sockets that has a good chance of the tip connector losing its springiness over time and causing the signal to cut out at the worst possible moment. As the bass is around twelve years old, the original socket is surely on borrowed time. Whenever I encounter one of these it gets replaced with a switchcraft, or preferably a pure-tone socket, and the original goes straight into the bin.

Now that I have fitted the bass with a pure-tone socket, I can have complete faith that the output jack is top quality and won't fail on me.

That flmsy socket looks a long way from becoming unreliable. Tne contact is virtually aligned with the midline of the socket.

This is a really good demonstration of exactly what rubbish is.

One thing that, to one person, is no longer usable, or fit for purpose, so they are going to throw it away.

The same thing, someone else would possibly be prepared to buy from them.

The real question is; whether Jean-Luc has thrown it away, sold it, or put it in their spare parts box...

I see this sometimes at the local council tip. Wonder why people are throwing things away that look perfectly useful. And I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for it, but you're not allowed to buy and sell things at the tip. Although I have seen people taking items off people as they're emptying their cars.

So is it rubbish, or is it ready to be recycled? A lot of rubbish music seems to have been recycled by various people.

Maybe I was hasty in confining the removed no-name far-eastern jack socket to the bin.

I am now offering it free of charge with all washers etc for pickup from South London, or for the cost of postage. PM me for details.

This represents an exceptional offer for anyone who enjoys living on the edge and would enjoy the frisson of anticipation in not knowing whether their bass will work when they plug in to play a gig.

Will it last a lifetime, or will it fail next week? We have no way of knowing!

*May not suitable for basses used with strap locks.
