razor5cl Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Spotted this one on Reverb a week or two ago and it's been on my mind constantly. Killer looking bass, love the RG shape - hardly ever see it in bass but the guitars are just so timeless, reminds me of the 80s shredders. PJ pickups and a nice looking neck, Gotoh tuners too. It's got my name written all over it, and I'd already be thinking of buying it but for one fatal flaw. What on Earth is that finish? Glam went out of fashion almost 40 years ago! https://reverb.com/uk/item/89622765-ibanez-rg-bass-1989-feline-limited-edition 3 3 Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I'm definitely feline something about it. Pity it's not a 5 I got one of the new ones recently and being "any colour as long as it's black" seems like a missed opportunity 2 Quote

Crusoe Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Some hairspray rock bands would still have been alive and well around '89; the Likes of Poison, for example. Unfortunately for them, a certain band from Seattle upset the apple cart a mere two years later. 1 Quote
Cato Posted August 27 Posted August 27 (edited) That Ibanez is a welcome reminder of a less tasteful age. I remember going into Musical Exchanges in Brum in the late 80s and lusting after the crackle finished BC Riches, I think Washburn & Kramer did something similar as well. Hot neon guitars and basses in almost painfully bright pinks and yellows were definitely a thing at around the same time as well. I don't remember seeing any animal print guitars, but they wouldn't have been out of place. Then, as mentioned above, grunge pretty much killed all the flamboyant finishes and it feels a bit like fashion wise guitars have been doing the same sensible retro/vintage finish thing for the last 30 years or so. They didn’t btw. 1 Quote

How does it sound? I've Googled but can't seem to find a black one for sale anywhere. 10 hours ago, Crusoe said: Some hairspray rock bands would still have been alive and well around '89; the Likes of Poison, for example. I much prefer the cult classic German underground death/thrash metal band Poison! 6 hours ago, Cato said: That Ibanez is a welcome reminder of a less tasteful age. Look here for example, tonnes of purples and yellows and crackles: https://www.andertons.co.uk/browse/guitar-dept/electric-guitars/?cio_brand=BC+Rich A mate of mine has a crackle Ironbird and I just can't wrap my head around it. The over-the-top glam finish is totally not my thing anyways but each to their own. But on an Ironbird? A guitar shape famous for black/death/war metal bands? The mind boggles. 3 hours ago, pete.young said: Not round here it didn't. Buy it and move to Suffolk. I'm sure Suffolk is very nice but I think my band mates and musical friends would immediately disown me if I was caught dead with that thing lol. Really not my thing at all, and now I don't have to spend 4 hours before a gig getting my hair and makeup done. Quote

It sounds fine, but pretty anonymous so far. I've not had the time or energy to restring it yet but I don't expect it to be terribly characterful. Looks cool though. There doesn't seem to be many about though. Quote

LeftyJ Posted August 30 Posted August 30 That's pretty cool! However, the basses were never called RG but RD (Roadbass series). This one looks based on the RD727. I've seen guitar versions in this finish before (the RG760 Feline and the even more rare US Custom Shop Golden Feline) but never the bass! Pretty cool Quote
