That would be great, Peter. And an honest comparison of latency, tracking and glitching would be very welcome too! I've not kept up to date on the latest FI manuals, but was thinking that if instead of "1 to 99" you renamed the pre-set patches as being in the style of "[Artist initials]/[Song]" it would immediately make the FI more accessible and, dare I say, even more desirable? You could then have the 10 most popular bass synth sounds as the first bank? Just a thought! 2 Quote

I think if you see this screen and get excited by the possibilities then the FI4 is for you if that fills you with fear and dread - the Mxr is for you! Fwiw I don't think the Boss SY-1 or SY-200 come close to the FI in terms of the quality of its synth tones, but it delivers something decent enough for live use on a few songs that need it in our sets. (I also really like its arpeggiator!) I'd therefore be pleasantly surprised if the SY-300 was able to come anywhere near close to what the MXR / FI are producing tonally. What the SY-200 does provide, however, is excellent "tracking" (in the commonly used sense of that term) and a lack of glitchiness, neither of which seem possible without changing playing technique with the FI. So, despite its limitations, the Boss is the one that I've kept on my board. If the MXR provides a combination of great synth tones, accessibility, and tight tracking, as they seem to indicate they've done, then they've pretty much hit the jackpot for many bass players looking to use a synth pedal for live use. Not to mention the used market when people realise they jumped on something they didn't really need. Quote
2pods Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I wouldn't know. Mine arrived last Thursday, but I was smitten with a foul lurgy, and am still out of the game. It will be plugged into my MB combo as soon as I'm able. Really looking forward to it. 1 Quote

I've had load of synth pedals. All lasted about a month before being passed on again Still, I know I'll end up with one of these (however briefly) Quote

MacDaddy Posted July 8 Posted July 8 4 minutes ago, Woodinblack said: Good plan, then I can buy it off you a few months later! By then there should be a new pedal out which is getting all the hype, so you'll be wanting to get rid of the MXR quite cheaply... which is where I come in 😁 😉 Quote

But the MXR sounded plenty good enough for a live band mix to me? Loved his descriptor of "blue collar bassist" - made me want to get his book, but seems to be kindle only now? 1 Quote
knicknack Posted Monday at 12:06 Posted Monday at 12:06 (edited) I feel like that video does the MXR dirty a little... as a pedal it does need a little practice to 'show' it the information it needs to generate the synth lines. The more I experiment the happier I'm getting, and whilst i still love my Moog, I'd have the MXR over a Novation BS any day already, and will leave the Moog at home now more than I would have! Had a fun little dep at the weekend... Edited Monday at 12:11 by knicknack 9 Quote

A live clip like that is worth a thousand words, and puts to bed any lingering doubts for me at least! Edited Monday at 12:16 by Al Krow 1 Quote
