Joe Strummer et al all said stupid things in their time. Personally, I’m all for politics in music as a child of the 80s.

 

It’s better than the apparent apathy that’s prevalent among so many of them now.

To an extent I agree, but kind of draw the line at supporting terrorists and paramilitary groups. I feel the same about people who  get all starstruck by gangsters and serial killers. Not much glamour or glory in being a terrible human being.

Saw the stuff on bbc four or whatever it was - a bit disjointed with not much of many groups. So saw Alanis, which I guess was ok, wasn't that impressed with you ought to know, seemed like she had got over it! I guess ok if you were there. Saw En Vogue - not generally my sort of thing, but very professional and tight, the bass player was great, and there was the funny contrast of 4 black girls on stage, then panning across the most white middle class audience you could possible get anywhere. Then a few individual songs, Yusuf Islam, one song, I didn't know, my wife did, seemed ok. Then biffy clyro, never got them so stopped watching at that point.

then went back for the live catchup (which is odd, I guess that makes it not live!), so I could see the glass beams gig which I thought was pretty good

 

Haven't seen any today but going to look if pulp were any good.

I guess so. Without a thread derail though it must be kind of obvious to most people now that there are deep structural issues with capitalism and neither right nor left have a solution. The best I hope for is not to turn on each other and make things even more ugly. So anyone preaching division or proposing violence as a solution whether with a guitar or ballot box can just fcuk off.

Depends on your view of art to reinforce the status who or challenge it. &nbsp
 

Someone earlier on described Glasto as a sunny and extended Jools Holland session. I reckon that’s not too far off the mark.

I have relatives through marriage who were murdered by 'loyalist' paramilitaries thanks to the assistance afforded them by MI5. 

 

I don't like to see anybody killed as a result of war, religion or anything else.

I'll admit that I couldn't listen right to the end, bu there was nothing nefarious that particularly shocked me in the snare sound. It gets a resounding 'Bof' from me.

In fairness, he's doing a lot better than some of the dinosaurs still trying to play these sorts of shows over the past few years. That GnR set from a couple of years ago still makes me cringe just thinking about it - such was the "quality" of Axl Rose's "singing".

Back on subject. I'm just watching Biffy Clyro, havent listened to them in years. Really excellent performance. Definitely a few odd time signatures in there, almost prog rock at times.

Just catching up with the Gary Numan set. Worst bass tone ive ever heard, but largest kick drum ive ever seen 😂

Not a huge fan of the grungy Numan band, but enjoyed the set after the first two songs were out of the way.

May I suggest the use of the 'Report' feature, to be found in the 'three little dots', top right of every post, when there is anything found to be distasteful..? It brings the Reported post to the attention of the Mods and Admin, where rapid and effective action is taken, depending on the merits of the Report. Much better than simply abandoning, and it helps keep the entire site on track. Just a suggestion; peace.
