Richard R Posted Monday at 20:19 Posted Monday at 20:19 I have spent the last few posts wondering why punk bands were playing a Donald Fagen song. Off to Spotify to find that UK Subs also have a song of that name - which makes a lot more sense 😄 @mikebass456 - a tenner if you open your set with this one: 1 Quote

We've also cheated and taken Valley up to E......😁👍 Sounds a lot better with the drop D. Lot more depth if your singer can do it. Its a 2 second retune to be honest. Loved playing Tommy Gun but SLF songs were my fav punk songs. We did Alternative Ulster, Gotta Gettaway, At The Edge, Nobody's Hero. We grouped Into Valley, Complete Control and Alternative Ulster at the end of the set. Encores being One Way or Another and Pretty Vacant. I do miss playing the punk songs even tho i was never a punk fan. Just so much energy in the songs. Dave 1 Quote

Dave The SLF songs we play go down the best too - The Edge, Nobody's Hero, Alternative and Tin Soldiers. As I start Valley, it gives our guitarist chance to put his capo on for it..... 1 Quote

Can't agree with you there...I luv' em 😁 That said in pre d-tuner days I did manage to detune on the fly at the end of this song Quote

Stub Mandrel Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Good rehearsal with the originals band tonight. Got my basslines finalised for 7 songs. We jammed a song that was acoustic guitar only on the bands first album. I came up with a bassline that had a 'Cirrus Minor' feel - very pleased with it. 3 Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago 75% of Bluesfunk band coming on nicely. So bass drums and new vox are working pretty well. However, our guitar player has terrible trouble a) not playing all the time b) not doing out-of-rhythm unimaginative blues noodles when we're doing funky syncopated stuff. He just gets his head down and neither listens to or watches the rest of us... And despite months of suggesting stuff for him to play along to he rarely bothers. Seems obsessed with finding some sort of magical Funk Formula - I've sent him Bootsy's one but he appears to have missed the point entirely, that you've got to feel it and if you don't, you won't funk! And being in the middle of nowhere means not many guitarists available, plus he's a bit vulnerable... 2 Quote
stewblack Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago First gig for the reggae start up on Saturday night so we squeezed in a rehearsal last night. Sadly the drummer can't cope with the histrionics of one of the singers and has announced his intention to leave once we find a suitable replacement. This may therefore turn out to be our only outing 😞 4 Quote
MichaelDean Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Getting ready for a run of two gigs in Wales this weekend (The Pit at McCann's in Newport on Friday, Fuel in Cardiff on Saturday). Got a few issues with a new song ironed out, so it should be all good. I do find I struggle with the timings for weeknight practices though. We do 6-10 at a local place, but finishing work at 4:30 so I can do the nursery run, where my daughter has decided that she wants to walk to/from nursery (and I don't want the fight of trying to get her in the pram!) means I get home at 5:20, quickly try and make something for dinner and get my stuff ready and wait for my wife to get back, try not to burn my mouth as I inhale dinner and then get out of the door... It's a challenge that seems to put me on the backfoot for practice. 2 Quote

Or have the others rehearse without you for the first hour (BV, for instance, or segue ideas..?). Just a thought. 1 Quote

We all haven't been 20 somethings for a while now and don't want to start at 7 to finish at 11. It makes work pretty painful the next day. We used to do 6-9 on a Sunday which was great until one guitarist moved to Newquay (travelling up in the week to work a few days in the office) and then suddenly it obviously doesn't work that well. Had to switch to midweek and then instead of doing 3 hour weekly practices, we're doing 4 hours every two weeks. It's all a bit frustrating. It really stops new songs being fresh for next practice if it's two weeks away. I think maybe we need to instigate some sort of online practice too on the non-physical meetup weeks. I've heard good things about Jamkazam. 1 Quote
Woodinblack Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Not great. I loaded the car and headed to the practice place, which is luckily not particularly far. As I drove in their car park was half used for some event, they had a food truck and loads of people sat outside, there was hardly anywhere to park and I was the first there, it was going to be difficult getting the equipment past them. I went to message the guys to say that it looked like it might be an issue and to ask the singer if he had cleared it with the pub owner, then had a sudden though, and looked at my watch. Sadly my watch said Wednesday, which is unfortunate as we practice on thursdays. So I drove home! 1 7 Quote

Most rehearsal rooms have fixed times usually 6-9 etc so we just do what we can until everyone is present and accounted for. Even just having a blether is a good laugh with us. Dave 1 Quote

Can't say i've been there but i think over the years i've been close but not left the house yet when i realised what day it was. 😂 Dave Quote
