I can't find a Face book page for the OP's band however, Awake til dawn do have one that's easy to find, offering their music and merchandising, answering questions etc. It's a possibility that they won't simply "get bored and pack it in" as they seem pretty keen and enthusiastic about doing this properly.

I would have thought that the first step for the OP's band would have been to advertise the fact that you are not to be confused with ..............etc, on your Face book page. However, if you don't have one.....

Sorry if I'm mistaken but if you do have one, I can't find it.

We do indeed! Were you searching for 'Till' with two Ls?

In the late 70s a mate's band "7 Year Itch" were doing OK, they were actually "big in Spain". They were taken to court by another band with the same name. They lost.
No problem they thought, they just changed the bands name to an abbreviation of the guitarists name, which brought the world "Wamm", just prior to a certain young duo's first hit.
They gave up soon after that.

Bugger, I remember watching a band called '7 Year Itch' and now I am confused as to which one I saw!

We reformed our band " Folk the System" after a 20 year break only to find some Canadians had stolen our name along with a rather dubious American festival with far right connections... We were gonna set our lawyers on both of them untill we realised we didn't know any who worked for free ;)

It's also a good story for your local press.
Be all good natured about it if you talk to them, saying you think it's quite funny being confused with a bunch of schoolkids who are learning to play...
this

they are teenagers so notwithstanding the fact that they do in fact 'know everything' stay low key, make sure your online presence is clearly stated (preferrably without animosity or ambiguity) and let it play it's course and see where it goes

it might turn out to both your advantages

then again they might just grow out of it in a couple of weeks and post all their stuff up for sale on the nearest facebook musical sale forum group

OR you might all get YOUR asses royally butthurt when they advertise for a SERIOUS DEDICATED singer as they have loads of material and are about to go into the studio and have management and promotion and WILL be the next big thing

well punks ... do you feel lucky? :P

Can get to it via the link but not on a search. Looks well set up and very up to date. Looks great in fact. TBH, I can't see how there would be much confusion. There's even another band called North til dawn.

Not mention to Dust Til Dawn, a house cleaning firm near Ipswich.

In fact, Til Dawn is looking increasingly like a name you might want to change to something more Google-friendly. A quick search reveals that even that awful band I auditioned for come up WAY before you guys. But at least they seem to have ditched their appalling drummer.

Incidentally, who knew about this film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_%27til_Dawn

Presumably this was Matthew Perry's debut?

Mid to late 1990s, formed a punk/goth band and called it Wasp Factory. We got an indie recording deal, and were all set to go into the studio when NME had a gushing write up of an unremarkable indie band called ... The Wasp Factory. So we became Complicity. We shouldn't have bothered with the name change as the indie band went nowhere.

An acquaintance, now sadly departed, had a band called Altered States which he formed in the 1980s and which he later reformed in the 1990s (with a bassist who went on to become the Complicity guitarist funnily enough). He registered the name, and I know for sure he stopped at least one other band using the name.
As you were obviously huge Iain Banks fans, you didn't fancy taking a punt at naming yourselves Frozen Gold, then? :)

I wouldn't be too worried! https://youtu.be/VxGSFdMk0qM

A few developments...

We contacted the band in question and very politely suggested they consider changing their name on the basis that we're the more established band, we had the name before they formed etc... We then received a very terse response which basically amounted to a verbal middle finger.

We were willing to take a deep breath, move on and leave it be. Then one of us got a phone call over the weekend from one of their fathers apologising for his daughters bands immaturity and rude response! Hilarious.

The fuss is about the fact that a band forms with a very similar name in the same small town. How good or bad they are perceived as being is irrelevant.

That is brilliant.

You should always remember that there are an awful lot of kids on the web posing as adults.

Maybe adults should go on a course to learn the opposite of the lessons our kids are taught about adults posing as kids. :D

Gosh, they look young!

As the names really are not similar enough to be an issue & the fact you've chosen a name that a) is already part of popular culture & B) is very easy to lead with another word - I would just leave the poor girls alone, they really don't need some fully grown men having a go at them about such a non-issue. Good luck to them & to your band - there's plenty of room in this country for the both of you.

Personally, I find the apostrophe more shocking than anything else, but there you go...

We're Expändables (note umlaut) and have been listed as playing in a few festivals in San Diego. Which would be great if we could easily get there from Kent. So luckily our umlaut-less namesakes are an ocean and continent away.

Bizzarely, most of our Facebook fans are from Indonesia, as I suspect they think we're the film franchise...
