Apparently, he died of a heart attack whilst playing with his kids on a beach in Mexico. I guess, if you are going to go, that may be the best way :(

For him. Possibly not for his kids.

Very sad to hear this, I liked his playing a lot. Saw him playing live many times with Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin etc, but one of the most remarkable thing I saw him playing was the traditional Tablao Flamenco in a very small club in Spain with Flamenco dancers and a singer called El Camaron De La Isla, it was just his guitar, the singer and the lady dancers with those finger clackers and their heels to provide the beat, it was amazing

Wow, I'm shocked and saddened.

In a round-about way it was Paco who was responsible for my taking up the bass.

Back in the early '80's my dad video taped "The Meeting of the Spirits" (Paco, Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin) when it was shown on Channel 4. From McLaughlin I heard about Stanley Clarke.

Chau, Paco.
