Lozz196
Just read about these in this months BGM, so did a quick search. There is the regular, which has a single coil pickup, and the special, which has a humbucker at the neck, and jazz pickup at the bridge. The clip below is of the special. Just love the sound, especially on the humbucker setting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkcmO1DunDU I thought I`d cured my bass gas, but that sounds soooooo nice!
It's not really possible is it? I've been very satified with my selection of basses, thought I was gas free. But recently I've realised I actually prefer the sound of Jazz basses to Precisions. My Warwick Corvette sounds very nice, but is WAY too heavy and now I've seen the 2012 American Standard Jazzes... (I also want a Lightwave 5 string fretless...)

bh2
Call me old fashioned but I'm none too keen on guitar/bass hybrids. I like telecasters but not the bass variety unless it's a 'proper' tele bass.
eude
There's something about that bass that I really love. I'm not a huge fan of the standard Fender thing, although they are arguably the classic basis for pretty much everything out there. I really dig the sounds that bass is making though and I personally love the way Fender/Squier are mixing things up a little, even if they're just smashing spare bits together. I'd love to see a 32" Jaguar bass with two of those bass ass humbuckers like the one in that Tele bass, 3 way switch, vol/tone/tone. I would probably even buy one if it was an affordable Squier model... Eude
KevB
I keep trying to persuade a local music shop to get one in for me to have a dabble on. Not nearly as muddy as I'd expect on that neck humbucker. I think they also do one in butterscotch which would fit in with my jazz and precision Are these Chinese manufacture? quality looks fine on that one in the vid. edit - having checked I think I got confused with modern player series, just black or 'vintage blonde' for these by looks of it -boo! spongebob
Looks and sounds great! Why are all the new more 'abstract' Fender's all Squier or MIC?

Donnyboy
yeah , I'm curious about them - liked them at first , kinda went off them , and now thinking my life is incomplete if I don't have one. However I haven't handled one or seen one up close are they only available on -line? If it was good quality & well built I think I'd go for ir - especially as I've sold some stuff & got some guitar stash! A friend recently bought a Squier VM Telecaster & reckons it one of the best guitars he's ever had & he had a big hang-up about the " Squier" brand " not a proper Fender " thing. Anyone got one?Any views?

Lozz196
Well the reviewer stated up front that they weren`t really into Fenders, apart from Jazzes. The said that the bass played exactly like a Fender, which is either good, or bad, depending on viewpoint, and that it was how a £350 bass should be, no better, no worse. But they did end with saying that although they`d never been into Fenders, this may be the start of a change. The one they reviewed was the single-coil version, btw. For me, I like the looks of the single-coil version better, but the sound of the humbucker is just great in the special.
Donnyboy
Thanks - much appreciated. Now, I like Fenders, I like the sound of a Jazz, I have always liked Telecasters, I like the 2 pickup idea and I like how it looks and sounds. I can see where this is going! I'll nip into WHSmith to buy a specialist mag , again!!
spongebob
Is it short-scale? Maybe it's just the way it appears!
JapanAxe
The spec says it has a 32" scale length, so medium scale I guess.I'm GASing hard for this, but I would worry about the balance, considering the strap button is sligthly 'in' from the 12th fret. EDIT: (next morning) D'oh! The shorter scale length will stop it being too head-heavy. Genius! Edited November 30, 2012 by JapanAxe

bigsmokebass
i like it but i feel the body may look a bit small on people like myself. tone isnt bad either but a bit punchy for something Tele like BSB
Donnyboy
Here it is with the close family..... Got it fairly recently and am very pleased with it- good quality and finish - doesn't feel short-scale. Body is sized for bass. It can shift some air - on the humbucker it's a bit scary!!! Lozz196
It doesn`t look particularly short-scale either, when next to the others. Nice one, am very envious.
Mr. Foxen
Bit of tape measure work should tell you how far you need to move the bridge once you put a standard length neck on it. Then you can tell me, because I'm curious.
