'88 Seems like a terrible year too :(
Another '88 here. This is what a quick search brings up for an '88 Jazz: http://www.normansrareguitars.com/fender-1988-power-jazz-bass.html

So, yes - terrible year pretty much covers it.

Although, there might be a few nice options from Ibanez (if you can get past the day-glo colours that seemed to be all the rage at the time) or Warwick.

'75 here so I'm halfway there with my white bitsa Jazz, ('73 body with a) '75 neck - one of the very last of the 4 bolters and with white blocks :)
I'm not too fussed about the body (I like the colour and its pristine) but that neck and I will never part company, its like it was formed around my hand and every single other bass I play on seems like hard work by comparison.

Here's a pic of the neck date stamp on my '64 Precision.

Given my date of birth is 5 Nov 64, I had to go for it!

That's the best one yet!

My birth date is 6 Nov 51, the year fender first started selling the Precision bass, how much would that set me back?

A lot of money ... but those neck date stamps only started in 1962 and the first number, i.e. 6 in your example, was not a date but a model number. 5 for Precision, 7 for Jazz and 6 was Bass VI. The letter at the end is nut width.

Thanks for the info, with or without the date stamp, I think a lottery win is the only way I will ever have a chance of owning a 51 precision.

Mind you, am I right in saying that John Entwistle owned No 5, and he said that it was crap, and unplayable?

Thats awesome fella!

Im a 79... Really really wanted a 79' Burgundyglo Ric... Could never find one, quite a few 80' and 78' but never 79'... So ended up with one from 02' instead - lol.

Although a 79' in Jetglo is appealling :)

I know I'm a young'n but there is a 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II up on ebay at the moment. I've played one of these before and it felt fair nice. A very solid bass (not sure what year it was through). That is very tempting...

Anyone know they are actually any good?

Well now, I used to think if I got a '64 Jazz in shell pink or gold flake, it would mean I would be the porn star's bollocks. But you know what, I tried some old Jazzes, and some were just about ok. But I realised that if I was going to do this I would paying a small fortune to drive a pale blue three wheeler in the F1.

So I ended up with a Warwick Streamer ChromeTone made 40 years later. I call it my 'year of RE-BIRTH' bass, the re-birth happening when BC member Dominic brought it to my house last year and I handed over eight hundred smackers. Let me tell you, it pisses all over the good '64 Jazz I played, and it's still got a '4' in it :D

i like your view about it and will make mine if you minds:
I've had a Ken Smith burner 98' as a gift for my 40' birthday on april this year, by my lady and her son. And this bass is so good and fit so well to my taste and comfort that is my "re-birth" bass. :)
And a real GAS killer too.

'75 P Bass for me please, if wishes were pennies this thread would be a proper earner :) I'd actually just like a nice proper P Bass, but even though there are a few in the sale rooms I can't justify it, except as someone said earlier you only live once :)

That bass is gorgeous but rarely leaves the house! B)
