Always makes me think of balmy summer evenings and some wonderful holidays in Andalucia. Thought I'd post a couple of clips for your delectation - first off the wonderful Paco De Lucia with Entre Dos Aguas and then the younger generation superstar Vicente Amigo (thanks to Nigel/silddx for pointing me in his direction). If you haven't been there before the gardens of the Alcazar are wonderful and there's several great flamenco venues. Touristy I know, but a horse-driven buggy trip round the old centre is fab! [/quote] Mrs ET is on a course with her Spanish flamenco teacher so I'm hoping to see some non-touristy stuff as well as the Alcazar. Mr. Foxen Posted April 30, 2012 Share Posted April 30, 2012 Great thing about flamenco is that everyone is sort of aware of it, and are sort of aware its quite hard to play, but most haven't listened very hard. So if you have the fairly basic bassist ability to play quite fast with fingers, and do a phrygian run up and down one string of any nylon strung guitar about (one string so you don't even have to tuned it) people think you are dead good. There is a whole movement called Nuevo Flamenco that fuses flamenco with other genres (some of the stuff already posted is actually Nuevo Flamenco not traditional flamenco). The secret if 'if it's got electric bass in it, it is probably nuevo flamenco'!! Flamenco is afusion of North African, Indian and Europeam music and is, ironically, given its complexity, a dance music first and foremost. In traditional flamenco, the most important element is the dance, then the cantador (singer) and the music comes in third. I would recommend anyone to go and see Flamenco live in a proper club for the total experience. I prefer the dancing with the music and not the music on it's own. Interesting style of play (I watched some YT clips last night). Only time I can recall seeing anyone play a fretless with a pick. I went to see them during this tour and it was indeed a fabulous gig. They took it in turns earlier in the day to do a mini-masterclass at which they spoke a little about their approaches and methods. What a guitarfest!
