ash Posted March 17, 2012 Share Posted March 17, 2012 I've seen a couple of these with two different brand names, one was a Kay and the other a Lincoln I thought it was a Vantage at first but they were a bit 'posher' in their choice of woods. The Kay was a great bass with a very substantial sound to it I wonder if the Kay logo has been taken off as they had a bit of a 'catalogue naff' reputation in the day which was a shame as they had some decent products - nice unusual beast! It would originally have had a brass plate with a black embossed "K" as the truss rod cover. Have a guitar - also finished in natural - from the same series. My school mate had a Kay Precision that had a neck joint you could park a car in, a banana neck with 'orrible tuners and the natural finish showed off a basic ply body, I also had a Kay branded P bass that was my main bass for several years and it had a beautiful solid wood - ahem ash - body and figured maple neck, same brand, same music shop, same model designation. It looked good, but the pickups were awful, and it had a serious neck dive problem - I tried to compensate for it by loading the control cavity with strips of lead, but it didn't help much!
