Best valve sounding, compact pedal with DI

Probably been asked a zillion times but I'll ask anyway. I want to use my ultra-clear Acoustic Image head for electric bass as well as DB (for which it excels). To that end I am looking for a pedal that sounds valve-y and can do a bit of grit but that also has a DI out. The latter seems to be the problem. The Catalinbread SFT sounds lovely but no DI. The VT Bass sounds lovely (nicer than the Sansamp BDDI in my view) but no DI. I know the VT Bass Deluxe has a DI but I don't need a whopping great pedal with a bunch of presets - am hoping for something smaller and more compact.

Any suggestions, peeps?
I watched the demo of this and it sounded awesome but its hellish expensive, unfortunately

Thanks paul_5!

The Behringer looks pretty sweet for £32 (on amazon)! It's not actually valve though, it's emulated...?

The Behringer is emulated. Does a good job as well.

Thx for the offer Nige! I think I might go for a Catalinbread SFT and a DI box, still pondering. Take a look at these vids, I think this pedal sounds truly awsome

I was a DHA user - very happy - had a VT2, which has a DI, was too big for my board, but brilliant. i still have a DHA EQ-DI which is great. I am moving now to an SFX micro red dragon for saturation type effect but at a 1/10th of the footprint. For me emulation is not a bad thing in the context of live where it's not under hi-fi scrutiny. Also depends on how much "break up"/grit you are looking for. Maybe more critical in recording but you may then get the chance to use other FX/plug ins? Smallish point but watch out for power supply issues, again depends on your board and space and all the rest but I found DHA pedals REALLY benefit from using the appropriate separate power supply (they are positive tip and there are issues with daisy chaining). This is not a point against Dave's pedals just not quite as easy as daisy chaining a 9Vdc negative tip.

hiho,try out behringer bdi21,great buy.
Get one s/h.
true bypass so you have 2 sounds at your feet,DI into PA and forget about amp,you can.If your amp goes down, your still in the PA.
I,ve had mine for years and would not leave the house without it.
I got it to try out the sansamp thing without spending loads to see if I liked it with the view of getting a sansamp .It,s done the job and I haven,t got round to getting one yet.
I,ve had it for years now and got it s/h and it,s still going strong.
Hartke vxl is good to but I prefer the simplicity of the bdi.

OK, so its DHA VT1 in the lead so far (features and price look good) .... any detractors or alternative suggestions?

I loved the sound of my VT2, but found it to be a tad noisy. So I sold it.

Now on the look out for another DI. So far the contenders are a cheap(-ish) and cheerful MXR or the Darkglass.

Why go for 'valve sounding' when you can get one with a real valve in it :)

Use what the pros use:

A-Designs Reddi - expensive but supposed to be the best there is!

I know a serious touring pro & session musician who swears by these :)

There's lots of info about them online but here's the first video review I found:

Of course, you know who's going to be stocking these soon. . .

Our very own Borntobemild from BassGear :)

if you want valve sound, buy valve:

+1 for dave hall if budget is a question:
http://www.davehalla....uk/page29.html
works also great as a preamp.

if budget is no question and you need 2 tube channels with very small space:

I use both with an acoustic image focus sa and S.A.D. custom cabinets on 4 and 5-strings and they work great.

was just going to say, if your budget's no option, then there are plenty premier products. The one's we are talking about are £100-200. What is the budget?
Was thinking £100-200. Still undecided between SFT or VT bass plus separate DI (I see Dave Hall does a DI for a decent price of £42) or an all-in pedal like a VT-EQ-Drive
