Non-stop extended periods of slaping can be tolerable... when tasteful, non-repetitive and at an acceptable volume. It's when it's not tasteful/poor, exceedingly repetitive with the same riffs over and over, and at ear deafening volume that I start to consider self-harming as a more enjoyable alternative,
I was trying a bass out the other day and after giving it a lot of fingerstyle work I really wanted to try how it slapped as it felt as if it had amazing potential. I'm no good in general, particularly not at slapping, but didn't want to seem like I was showing off in the middle of the store. Such a predicament! In the end I just turned the bass right down and slapped away, and it was great too, but I had to stop quickly before I felt like too much of a knob.

Fixed.

Who would be up for a Bass Players in Drag Competition?

Turn up to the Bass Bash in drag, photos are uploaded here the next day, Mrs T chooses the winner.

Shame..but it's great that you're gigging...

See you next year hopefully!

As I mentioned earlier I'd be happy to give a demo - either in small group or to the whole Bash if my embarrassment levels will tolerate it - explaining some slap and picking techniques that get away from relentless machine gun triplets and always riffing away in open E or A when slapping... I'd be happy to have a few others plugging in as well to enable them to learn or share any of the techniques discussed/demonstrated...

Let me know if any of y'all is interested - we can always use one of the off-shoot performance rooms to do this in

Cheers

Mike

Interested for sure, provided no one hears me slap. I'd love to learn off someone who knows what they're doing instead of imitating what I've seen on youtube.

Thanks Mike; that's great! I thought the informal session you did last year with the loop station - which just kind of happened - was really good! So anything along those lines would be really cool!
