I put one on a 5-string Precision a while back and it did tighten the string up and make the B better.

Just put another P together with a roasted Jazz neck . Same woods as my others but for for some reason this resonates and punches fantastically well👌

Fenders "artic white" body... Yet it's like a cream colour 🤷.

I'd agree there. It's the same shade as my Olympic Jazz.

Definitely looks like the creaminess of olympic white.

 

Arctic white is not creamy at all. It's more of a brilliant snowblind white.

I say this with some trepidation (and yes I can hear all of the sniggering, calm down at the back please)

I put it together from parts left unsold after a recent bitsa sell-off. Late 70's Daion body, Warmoth full-fat Precision neck, with maple cap/slab. A big surprise is the Squier CV PUP and circuit, which frankly sounds as decent as any I've owned (I am going to test some alternatives at some stage just in case they sound even better). Currently rehearsing a Pixies show, this is doing the job rather nicely 👍

I changed out the CV pups and controls in an old Squier Jazz that I owned, but really didn't need to. It sounded perfectly lovely from factory. I'm now lead to believe that the CV's use Tonerider pickups, of which I use in my American Jazz. They're absolutely beautiful sounding. I like them so much that im fitting a set to my own Bitsa Precision

Slightly misleading info here. Only the early cv, the pino version had tonerider pups, everything since have been fender designed.

The headline specs of the pups used in the 40th Anniversary P (and possibly the CVs?) lie in between the Fender Vintage 60 and Vintage 63. All Alnico 5 just very slightly different winds.

Interestingly, the VIntage 60 spec has slightly lower maximum resistance specced for the treble (fender call it 'lead') half of the pickup, although minimum resistance is the same.

After a year of gigging it, I still hadn't fallen for the vintera II '50s p bass I'd gotten, so I traded it in and got this Player II - 

 

 

Absolutely delighted with it, ergonomically the neck just works better for me, and the pickups are superb.

 

 

Put the obligatory leopard print strap on it and the rest of this year has been going great. Might even sell on something else and pick up another one in green 💚

Here is my 'bitzer' precision. It was originally built from a sunburst alder Japanese body and maple/ebony fretless neck from Brandoni guitars about 20ish years ago.

 

I have changed hardware over the years, and since a major rebuild where I replaced the neck a few weeks ago, the only parts that remain from my original build are the body, strap buttons, and the neckplate & gasket.

 

The parts that make it up are:

 

• Brandoni MIJ sunburst body (suspiciously similar to the body on the 1990 CIJ '62 reissue precision I used to own)
• Fender maple/maple Jazz to Precision conversion neck (the fretwork was spot-on so no additional levelling/crowning etc was required)
• Hipshot HB7 lollipop tuners (The neck was pre-drilled for this size of tuners, and I had a spare set so I didn't use the HB2 set I had on the fretless neck)
• Nickel plated String retainer from Armstrong music
• 'AliExpress' 4-ply aged pearloid pickguard (Identical to guards costing several times as much and a perfect fit — I just needed to drill a second hole for the thumb rest)
• Fender HiMass bridge (with chrome plated brass saddles)
• Fender Thumb rest
• Fender Strap buttons (with 'Grolsch' strap blocks)
• Fender 'F' neckplate with black gasket
• EMG Geezer Butler pickup & loom
• Callaghan late 50's style heavy knurled nickel plated knobs (£40 & worth every penny!)
• Ernie Ball 2815 Cobalt Flatwounds 40-60-70-95

 

I am using a Levys brown suede strap with this bass. I lined cavities with copper tape to prevent hum & slug invasion.

 

The neck came fitted with a nut which required the slots to be cut much deeper and shaped. I was originally going to attempt this myself, but as I have do not pocess the tools, expertise, or good eyesight needed, I took the bass to the Gallery in Camden where John did a fantastic job for just £40.

 

I'm really pleased with this bass. The jazz-width neck and perfect setup makes it almost play itself, and the combination of the EMG GZR & the Cobalt flats make it sound absolutely huge.
