P's are humbucking and J's are single coil.
Pretty much. A P pickup, is actually two coils wired together to cancel hum, similar to a normal humbucker, or when you have both pickups on a J bass when both are on full. The rest really comes down to.where the pickup is placed. People swear that the a P sounds different a Jazz bass at the neck pickup, but to me they sound exactky the same. These days you can get jazz "single coil" pickups in a variety of versions, my bass has dimarzio model Js, and they are in fact split coilsin a jazz pickup casing

I find it hard to get sleep once I'm bed. I usually toss and turn and piss about on my phone till early hours, and even though I can get toowork on time by waking at 7:30 I'm usually wide awake at 6. I can't remember when I last had a decent 8 - 9 hours kip. I often stew about my bass playing, gear, work, bills, money and all other things.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! PLEASE help me choose! *Decision made!*
Hmmm.... So natural and matched are level pegging at this point...... I think they're better than the black, with natural still just edging it I think (which was my original choice before the doubts (and price) crept in!) Although the more I look at the black, it ain't too bad. Currently awaiting news from Sandberg on how exactly it costs them more to produce a natural headstocked version........
It might possibly be because they have to print the geadstock labels black rather that the white/pearloid colour, also they might clear lacaur it rather than leave it raw when it's black. Maybe.... Depending on cost it's definitely worth it though. -

Natural. So bit backwards to bot charge for black but charge for natural. Not too many natural headstocks banging about and is get another if I didn't have to go custom for a natural headstock. -
Depends on your budget. I will vote for the original US made SUBs. The electrics, hardware, pickups and neck are all from the original stimgray, the body is just made from basswood (iirc).

How did he upset the Mrs this much!!!
Prime_BASS replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Its a good job that all the lads on BC are single
Corrected. Before this gets dirided any more, the scratch plate could have been replaced. although something seems fishy. -
My experience seems to suggest tgatcactives open up a lot of the extreme bottom and top of the frequency range. However I use now a passive jazz and it has billions of top end, thanks to far better and simply electronics and the pickups I have are top notch. A passive bass also works better for me at the moment too. If this question was asked to hopefully help decide how to get the most bass for your money, find something you like in a shop (jazz over a P for example) and then buy it second hand.
Well yeah, that's pretty much what the rest of my post said! 'Need' however is a very strong word. It implies a lot more than 'commonly'.
I would say anyone who is having some kind of output problem, such level consistenty, they would 'need' a compressor
They could easily have said that it's not fixable under warranty, as the damage was your fault. The fix was effectively a freebie, so you can't really complain about how long it took.
Now your making stuff up. The unit wasn't fixed under warranty, I had to pay for the parts and the labour. Same as anyone else whose unit is no longer under the warranty period.
I don't want to sound mean, but a ) you didn't buy it in the UK and b ) it was your own fault. Maybe they should have been quicker, but... y'know...
Wait what?. Regardless of what happened or why. My point was that they took best part or 4 monthsto replace a power amp section and simply drop it in. And as a contrast I gave an example of a similar head breaking and taking next to no time at all to fix it and get it back to me. However, it's not like a brought a region specific product and expected it to work fine in the UK, due to my own fault I broke it, that wasn't in dispute, their lack of speed was. I feel I could of rang genz up myself and ordered the poweranp section and installed it myself, probably should have taken a month at best. How or why they would refuse to fix it I don't know. Seems a but silly that.
I can understand the frustration but how did you blow it up?!?!
I got it as import due it being about 200 pounds cheaper, but neglected to change the voltage selector when turning it on, lots of fire, lots of smoke, then dirty wet patches everywhere.

Fender 2013 Japan Limited Edition '66 Jazz Bass
Prime_BASS replied to DanEly's topic in Bass Guitars
Sorry, had to pop out to pick up the kids! Playability wise it's fantastic. I cannot fault it and it has a great "acoustic" sound and resonance. It's pretty lightweight too. Plugged in, I don't think I've really found its sweet spot yet. When I got it I had the pots and cap upgraded (maybe I have the wrong cap for the bass). I've had Nordstands in it and currently have Lindy Fralin PUs in it and I'm still working it out. TBH I have nothing really to compare it to. My other Jazz is the all ash/maple JB75 reissue - that has Nordstrands and a John East preamp and sounds like a totally different beast - a very modern "Super Jazz" type tone. I may experiment with a different cap and/or different brand of strings with the JB66. I'm looking at it now. It sure is pretty.....
I have my 62 import jazz strung with d'arddario nickelwounds and it has Dimarzio model Js in, backed off the neck pup a tad to get the obvious scoop out it sounds mint. -
I'm guessing the warranty that is on a GB product will remain ?
Yes Fender UK will honour warranties that are still valid, and are also the ones who deal with fixes etc, although I will not recommend them to anyone. I blew a streamliner 900 and it took around 4 months to slot in a new power board when all they had to do was replace the electrolyte capacitors and some other burned out components. I used real electronics in Sheffield for my Markbass head and explained my worries for time after dealing with fender, they replaced the broken components and had it shipped back to me in less than a week. Anyway, I've been wanting to try the fender rumble heads to see what they are like as they seem similar in size to the shuttles. If Fender did end up make heads that were just as good as the shuttle I would have no problem buying one.

Can anyone help with this? Frustrated :(
Oh, and if you get it right make sure you post your own YouTube video! That girl's video was spotted by Jamiroquai and they flew her out to meet the band and play with them live on stage during their tour. Also Stuart Zender recently gave her one of his Warwick signature basses for free!
That bitch. I will mirror others in saying, play it right slowly first. Speed isn't amazing great, playing it right is. The speed will come later. For what it's worth I play this tune with my fingers, and found it a bit difficult at first. I tend to play close to the bridge where there isn't much slack in the strings so I'm not "falling over" loose strings and playing with a much lighter attack will help. When speed is involved I play the strings more like a classical guitar, barely touch, just a light caress. -
I have 8 pedals on a disco commuter, with room for maybe 2 more. If that helps.

Check battery, power supply? I found the level to be a little low when I had one two, but more gain seems to remedy it.
-
I'm not a huge fan on the aesthetics or the electronics they pack in the basses, but the pickups are cracking, the MFD pickups sound a lot better in passive than regular Musicman humbuckers. I'm planning a build using 2 SB-2 bridge pickups in a jazz bass.
What sort of gigs would require a 1600W rig? After a certain size, wouldn't everything go through the PA?
Is it even going to be 1600 watts, past experience will dictate it to be probably less than a 1k if that.

Being the one who says "no" to gigs.
Prime_BASS replied to Beer of the Bass's topic in General Discussion
I'm the one who says no, all the time. Or atleast the most rational. It's easy to explain why not to do a gig, especially if it is going to be pants, not a lot of solid reasons for doing any gig really. Will people be there? Will you get reimbursed for travel? -
I've always found active basses have too clean and clinical a tone for the stuff that I like to do. I prefer a more raw vintage sound.
Grainy, like vinyl
What a shame, great products, great company, great customer service, have dealt with both Jeff and Aged Horse and have nothing but good things to say about them. Who will Fender destroy next, taking bets.....,,,,
GK ?

I used to swear by active stingray types, but could never find a usable tone with the kind of sound I wanted fir the band. Tried a decent passsive J, and I'm yet to be disappointed. I don't see myself playing anything like I was before for a while atleast, although I'll always want my original Stingray back.
