Useful item for a dirt pedal enthusiast. Revue please ! Any volume loss at the 50:50 setting ?
No not at all, I haven't found any active blender such as this(along with the boss Ls-2 this was an upgrade for) to have volume loss at 50:50 mix. With both on and mixed at 50:50 there is a slight boost (as I have a drive always on) which isn't bad at all. Main reason for this was to give me more possible options at my feet, instead of playing around with my small knob in the dark. I will try and do a proper review sometime soon though.
Tom is building me a preamp / compressor / DI at the moment. He's been a pleasure to deal with, couldn't have done any more to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Can't wait to get hold of the finished product... Rob
Sounds good, be interested in that as I might be after a preamp/eq soon mwahaha.
i have a few ideas cooking with tom, really looking forward to things starting to take shape
sounds interesting, for a guy as busy as him he replies fairly quickly and friendly to all my emails, and is being very helpful with my next effects decision.

Did you go for a maple headstock in the end?
I may well get one of these. A compact which is actually ...... compact. However, call me a philistine and technically out of touch, but I lament the passing of the 15" speaker.
The original wasn't that big compared to every other 1x15 out there. This though, if you were never told of the speaker size, you'd think it was a much bigger cab.
You can tell your girlfriend that she is indeed very beautiful. She really is However, speaking as a heterosexual, female bassist.... I'm more interested in the cab
Haha! I will get a proper update tomorrow for sure. But all things are looking good at the minute. Very pleased, this 1x12 cab really is bigger in sound than what I was expecting at all, and my last cab was a stonking great 4x10
Did you used to have a S12t? How's it compare?
Yeah, and a 1st gen Compact and a 2nd gen, along with a midget. I can't make any meaningful comments yet as I've barely played with it at any decent volume. Although it feels seriously loud for a 1 cab let alone a 1x12. Feels like the volume would keep coming if I had more watts, and I'm only pushing 350 into it and it's ridiculously loud. Hopefully will get to hear it properly tomorrow after work so will report back. Thanks for the nice comments guys, the girlfriend is an insecure one and she likes the positive reinforcement. Will try and get some less 'fhm' pics up tomorrow too.

Got this today in the post. looks awesome, designed to replace the Boss LS-2 that I've been using to use parallel lines of effects into one rig. Wanted it to do what the LS-2 did, only better and true bypass. 2 channels both have level and phase switches, clean blends and on/off switches. Also there is a master level trim pot on the inards. Tom has been a great guy to deal with and has been totally patient with me and I'm looking to get some more custom stuff done too. Took arrival of a few new things today, one being the Super Compact. First got wind of this from Alex best part of about 2 years ago, so when they were actually getting built I jumped at the chance. Not had too much of a play yet but first impressions is that the neighbours hate me even more, MAHAHAHAHAHA. UPDATE! So today we had rehearsals and I've been dying to really hear this cab! Long story short, the neighbours are mardy jobless poo bags that are in all day everyday, in bed by 8pm up by 6am type of people, so I'm hesitant on really cranking it, as even trying to play with input on volume on 12 and the gain adjusted to barely clip its quietiest is still louder than the tele(adjusting the input volume helps though but bass is meant to be loud.) We rent a room in the city and its normally accompanied by some kind of cheap large heavy cab and amp, been using a Peavey TRX(???) 810 which is loud and full of low mids and lows, but absolutely no definition with out extreme Eq changes. Today I took the Super Compact and my genz head, and did a little A/B with the big heavy thing. I will just say that the super compact is infact a 1x12 cab it's also very small and very light, ad today it was getting around 350 watts and the big one 600 watts. You can see from the picture the size comparison. This Super Compact is loud, there is no other words. For a single cab it doesn't have a natural big low end, but to remedy I boosted the bass to about 1 o clock at the most, and it filled the large room with ease. I know saying the master volume was at 12 is meaningless to a degree but on the 810 I had to have it pretty maxed (too maxed the clip light starts coming on a bit too much) to even get a similar perceived loudness. Playng with a very loud drummer a loud vocal PA and a JCM900 into a 4x12, the tiny thing was punching way above its weight, I thought I'd struggle to hear it(it being so low on the floor that's why the amps head is off the 8x10) but I played the whole two hours like this and it was fine, I'm not even sure if the original Compact could of gotten that loud. It was audible around the mids to hear it through the mix and the lows wasn't overbearing like the 8x10 where my ears start getting tired after the first song. After today I find it hard to believe that anyone could choose a 4x10(or even a 1x15 or 8x10) over this thing or even suggest that they 'need' something that large and heavy, these people are deluded. I think though if I was against another guitarist I could probably need another Super Compact or a Super Midget to get through the mix a bit more, or add a bit extra volume just incase I needed but as I understand I could probably pump even more watts into this and it will give me even more volume. Although I don't think I was pushing it hard at all. I don't even think any one, unless they were playing with 2 halfstacks and a bunch of other stuff or never played with a PA, would need any of the bigger barefaced cabs. With that 'wants' always override 'needs' haha. The front grill looks a lot better than the past versions, a lot more professional and less of a 'handmade' effort, and the handles are still the plastic things they used to have but have added metal sections where the most wear and tear happens on the old ones, although to me I never understood the big deal with people issue with the old ones, just sceptics looking for something to moan about I think. Mega mega pleased, I will try and write a proper review in the review section today or tomorrow. Can't believe how loud it is, really cant. To compare I've had, gigged and played with; Barefaced Compact, Barefaced Midget, Barefaced Super Twelve T, Genz Benz 410Focus LT, Ampeg 806 HE, Markbass TRV210 x2, Ampeg 210 x2

For me, I play through a PA so I need to hear what I sound like from a a good solid clear and clean rig. The rest of the colour and 'tone' is from me and some bits inbetween me and the ap. The amps Eq is there to suit to the room or stage.

Looking for a Protec Case in the Uk

Not stocked at bassdirect any more? As a side note, I have one and love it. Pockets are plenty large enough, I fit all my cables, my amp and some other bits and pieces in them, the shoulder straps are comfortable, so much so I rode home from work on my bicycle with it on my back. Also major major protection and stability. It's been chucked about a fair bit and I've had it nearly 3 years and nothing has fallen off. -
Really? I thought most amps had both bass knobs and volume knobs which could be turned anticlockwise?
Beat me to it.
Good tip. I'd forgotten about that. It has the added advantage of making them look (a bit) like EMGs!
Used to do it with every bass when I played with fingers as I was going for that snappy pop noise that Doug John's gets on his pedulla. Bad side is that people get a bit prissy about the tape she. It comes to moving it on.

Put some thick electrical insulation tape over them. It stops the nasty clacks and pops when the strings touch the pole pieces. Also I would look at the overall pickup height, I find on J basses that unless you are plucking right over the neck pickup and ragging it the strings have a hard time touching the pickups at all. if they are set to fenders spec at least.
Putting a link to your advert is fine, no problem there at all. Listing stuff you haven't advertised isn't. Linking to items on Gumtree\Ebay etc. isn't either. HTH
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?app=forums&module=forums§ion=rules&f=19 Am I being dumb? But I'm sure it says here under section 8 that linking to sale threads is against the rules. I even had my links removed from my signature by a moderator. So what's that about? It appears most of the mod team don't read the rules, but expect others too. Colour me annoyed some.

This thread is making me want to get another !!!
Cos I am cheap, and skint, and can build a passive box with bits I have lying about. LS-2 is £80, a wee bit less than the Electric bill i am currently selling stuff off to pay for, and similar to the MOT costs I have to pay for next week, and will then have to find stuff to pay for. Life is a pain... effects should be easier.
man just don't eat for a week or two. that's how I afforded my last bass . Seriously though. I am selling my Ls-2 as soon as the custom turns up which should be Monday, and I'll let it go for £55 or whatever the going rate is. I've tried every passive option going, passive blends, two channel passive mixers etc etc. just because they were cheap, but I could never get anything usable out of them volume or tone wise. I would just suggest that if you could make it active so you can boost each channel(no clue electronics wise lol) it will be a whole lot easier.
-
Yeah, they are a great bass and worth the pounds. Strung with flats they sound great, prefer that sound to any precision I've tried.
-
A bit of a faf for me, there are built units that can do this. Why go for passive? My experience with passive stuff is the signal tends to drop considerably, and obviously you can only cut volume with a passive unit. I'm selling ny ls-2 as soon as I get my custom cog pedal.
That's easy. It's worth whatever you think it is worth. But if you are looking to sell it, please advertise it for sale in the Basschat Marketplace
I'm sure ive seen this on eBay. Was tempted although the asking price is a bit rich. Personsally I think I offered 400 pounds fir it.

Barefaced 3rd Generation product range upgrades
Prime_BASS replied to thebassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Has anyone actually received their 3rd gen cab? Cba to read through all that bitchy crap. -
If I new what I knew now, I would have still be using my jaguar bass into an LMtube and my first barefaced compact.
-
If you aren't after the tube like overdrive then both are pointless, stick with your shuttle, engaging the mid scoop and bumping the very low mids with make it sound like the streamliner.
