  1. Maybe in arenas or stadiums where the artists aren’t paying full whack for them, but the smaller gigs I’ve seen over the last 10 years or musicians I know doing the covers/ function stuff tend to use Markbass, Bergantino, Vanderklay, Barefaced, Aguilar ect. Aguilar is still my favourite amp manufacturer but can’t justify a DB751 or DB cabs.
  2. There was a huge push for lightweight cabs with the introduction of mark bass and bergantino and some brands such as EBS, Ashdown and Eden got left behind. Apparently Trace Elliot were hugely popular at a time but when I got serious about playing they were only known for reliability issues.
  3. Well you can’t not say who this builder is after that. Someone here might be about to pull the trigger....
  4. So far I’ve bought some strings and the basschat strap locks. As the strap locks haven’t arrived yet the strings are currently both the best and worst 😂
  5. He was a fantastic and innovative musician no matter the instrument. I’m sure he worked it out
  6. Definitely not fender, maybe vintage Japanese or Korean?
  7. Even worse then. I see it all the time with Sires, Fenders, Sadowsky’s..... Mostly on eBay or Facebook tbf
  8. For me it’s second hand basses priced similar to new. Bass direct sold a Ken Smith bass for £4999 last year (if bought at advertised price). The person who bought it put a large ding on the bottom and has advertised it for £4750!
  9. Play with a softer touch and just below the neck. I’ve recently tried la Bella flats for the first time and they’re fantastic.
  10. I thought that too. Almost the price of an original similar age P or Jazz. Seller names the price though if commission.
  11. This just popped up, definitely road worn. https://thebassgallery.com/products/fender-tele-bass-1969
  12. Heres some samples of different sounds I could get from the Overwater pickups... Spec is: Fretless - ebony board Body not alder but similar, with flame top - gloss finish Passive pickups with buffer circuit Nickel coated strings (probably 3-4 weeks old) Hand position is always between the pickups.
  13. Yeh I’m very confident the overwater pickups will get close to those tones but also with more clarity and definition in the notes. I would record the same riff on mine for you but; mines passive, fretless ebony board, I’m using coated nickel strings and don’t have fret buzz, so it wouldn’t be a good comparison.
  14. Have you got an example of the sound you’re after?
  15. How long until she is thrust onto Britain’s got Talent and Simon Cowell ruins her life. Edit: she’s a wonderful talent and I hope she finds happiness in what she does!
  16. Haha I wish I was.... I’ve not had a NBD in over 3 years, I wouldn’t recommend this diet but the overwater does help with the pain.
  17. Exactly, I think it was £200 extra for that flame top. Not a lot really considering basic price was £2.5k
  18. I’m on my second. My first was an early J5 in white with tort, don’t have a photo of that anymore though. Astonishing B string but didn’t get on with 35” scale having only had 34” before. It had Kent Armstrong pups, a John east pre and all hip shot hardware. My current is a J4 fretless with the passive buffer and Overwater pups. The only thing I don’t really like is the Overwater bridge. It’s not as easy to change strings on as a hip shot B style. With Overwater you have the opportunity for something you can’t get with Fender and they’ll do any colour scheme. Also if you can it’s not that much more for fancy woods and they have a great selection.
  19. Same as 2020 and 2019, a Ken Smith Black Tiger. I have a feeling this could be a long wait though. Only other bass I’d like again is a Warwick NT Thumb bass. Really regret selling mine although I had no choice.
  20. Lovely, is ‘91 quite early for a stingray 5. I thought they were introduced only in ‘88.
  21. Can’t compare with Elixirs because I haven’t used them in ages, but I preferred the brightness and warmth of the standard MB nickels compared to the coated ones. Obviously coated ones have lasted longer but I’m not sure that’s worth the sacrifice in tone.
  22. Nice, always thought mahogany would be quite a heavy wood though compared to alder or ash.
  23. This is what I was going to say. Also depends if the songs are rearranged or played in the same format they were recorded. Of course for YouTube it depends if you’re using it for promotion, teaching or just for fun. I like learning songs note for note because I pickup the nuances. I mostly read books if I have it or transcribe it myself. And not gigging means I don’t need to learn 100 songs ready to be played at any time.
  24. Nice to see you haven’t been put off by the Rocco Palladino thread 😂 it’s cool you’re still been able to play together (of sorts)
