  1. I’ve got an overwater custom jazz. Didn’t have any specifics in mind other than; fretless, ebony board, and looking a bit like the bass of doom in its current state. I absolutely love it and the neck is probably the best I’ve played. Otherwise a neck thru 5 string would be nice with a figured walnut top and back, flame maple centre and sides, 34” scale, 18mm string spacing, brass hardware, and Ken Smith pickups and EQ. Fortunately I can get that off the shelf if I win the lottery.
  2. Isn’t a quilted maple streamer basically a Spector? 😂 the reverse P idea would be different, Lee sklars Frankenstein bass sounds amazing, although that could be more to do with his playing. why don’t you have a flame maple body with a quilted maple top. That way the sides and back have the flame.
  3. I completely agree (although I’ve only ever seen pictures of both). But I thought John had stopped building relics and was focussing on restorations only. Bravewood seem to be an improvement on Fender Custom Shop whereas I think limelight is at the Fender Road worn level.
  4. Part of me feels that if you don’t want the bass, then leave it for someone who does. I know this isn’t how it works but it wouldn’t feel right to me to enter knowing I didn’t want it.
  5. I’d ask the builder to see the stock they have. Then you can see the graining and decide which block you like better. I went with flame because I don’t find it as flashy and I was going for a bass of doom vibe.
  6. Awesome colour. I wonder if limelight could do something similar.
  7. Have you tried ebony boards yet? That tends to be my preference although I find characteristics I like from maple and rosewood as well.
  8. I really like that, but then I also really like this: Be nice to have both.
  9. Waiting time depends on demand - They are very highly regarded but if they keep putting the price up demand may fall. Price - cost of parts, rent, salary’s are likely to all increase year on year. More so right now if they’re importing any parts from Europe. I think the wait time on my Overwater was 9-12 months. I think it took them around a month from picking the woods to delivery. It gave me time to change certain details though.
  10. Now I’ve got alleva copollo GAS 🤩
  11. Christ what a thread! Prices are down to simple business, Fenders overheads won’t be nearly as much as Alleva Copollos or whatever it is called. Some people clearly feel that it is superior product to a fender otherwise Jimmy wouldn’t have a business. Same as Sadowsky ect. A lot of players are used to Fender shapes and therefore they are popular. I like overwater J series, so I bought one. I also like Sire which is a lot cheeper. Does that make me regret the Overwater? No.
  12. Hey bilbo, did you improve your reading through a book or just transcribing a lot? I transcribe quite a bit but wouldn’t say I can read through a transcription without slowing it down or breaking it into sections and learning it a part at a time. I used to have a tutor who could sight read the James jamerson book!
  13. He’s got enough money. Charge him £10 to enter a draw 😂
  14. Yep I’m in. Lost one of my Grolsch ones
  15. I think his personal situation is irrelevant. He offers a product, that product wasn’t what it should be and therefore he needs to swiftly rectify that for the customer. The fact he hasn’t is his own failure. It sounds like he doesn’t have any input in the actual build of the basses so he should be making sure that business runs smoothly. Whether this thread is like something on talkbass or not, it is important that users share their experiences to help others. I do hope potential buyers are put off and other builders who care more about their product/ customers are rewarded.
  16. Doesn’t a company have to within a certain time period in European law if a product is damaged?
  17. Please just return it and contact overwater basses. You won’t have any issues there.
  18. Top 1% earners have 44% of the worlds wealth. £22k is probably a days work for some. In return they get a (likely) fantastic instrument that could be a great investment, but also an interesting point of topic. “This bass only has two knobs!”
  19. Is this the most expensive bass ever advertised here?
  20. I would send this back and get a bass from somewhere else. When I ordered my Overwater there was communication at every stage and I had a good discussion before the build on the options I would like with no time pressures. Oh and Chris May is great to deal with.
  21. Bridge bits on flame maple - Overwater 2017
  22. That is ideal. I hated long travel, having to wait around for hours, finding somewhere to eat in the middle of nowhere. Enjoyed playing, especially with the last band, but not worth the agro or when I was working all week too. My last gig was NYE 2018/19 and I’ve just enjoyed learning music for myself since.
  23. A lot of gospel is played on 5/6 and often musicals are written for 5 string. It just gives more options to the player/ composer and is widely available now. If you follow the lee sklar vids on YT he uses his 5 string Dingwalls a fair bit too.
  24. https://m.thomann.de/gb/marcus_miller_v5_alder_4_ts.htm Not out yet but yes VVT. I’m tempted myself.
  25. Isn’t the point that the bad stuff can be fixed with parts? My MIM actually came stocked as new with American standard PUs and they were still too timid.
