1. The right person won IMO All three finalists were genuinely deserving of those slots. And Helen Sanderson is definitely going on 'the list' 😉
2.
Just ordered one of these from GAK as I needed a distortion pedal for when my band covers Ace Of Spades (just doesn't quite work with a clean sound). After watching the various YouTube demos and reading this thread though, I'm now thinking I may actually use it as an always on pedal for warmth and growl and just crank it when I need a full on overdriven sound. Should arrive tomorrow so looking forward to having a play with it at Saturday nights gig!
I'm using the ehx glove for that lemmy drive tone (in my situation it nails it!), and the bsf as always on grit.
3. Could I get a pic of the rear pls?
4. I've tried many many brands over the years, including many of the buzz/ trend brands. All but Warwick red label, roto bass and swing bass left me cold and with a tone I couldn't work with. These days I'm using 50-110 and couldn't be happier with my tone
5. Looks like some sort of headphone amp
6. Ash down produce an octave effect which is allegedly based around the sub harmonic effect within their amps. There are loads of octave pedals where you can have the effect added as subtly as you'd like.
7. The ehx glove might fit the bill too
8. I have played it with a standard 50-110 swing bass set tuned to drop c. It worked better on some instruments than others. My old westbury track 2 nailed it for me Sure it's a bit floppy and rattly but that's the sound !
9. Very nice.
10. I played three different levels of t bird the other day at Andertons. The entry level bolt on neck sounded terrible, but played ok, whereas the classic (?) set neck epiphone kicked even the USA version to the curb. The epiphone had a clarity and bite that the USA didn't. The USA sounded weak and lifeless to both myself and the guitarists I took with me. The USA left me cold, and wondering why it cost over a thousand pounds more than the epiphone model
11. I see they've also done a blue plaque for Jon Lord
12. I use them as thickeners. The c9 I have on the swell setting, and b9 on fat Hammond for doubling a la Jon Lord with the purple songs we do Occasional chords, but normally doubling what I'm playing. I've found the best solution sound wise for me is to run the pedals to di, with a killswitch, rather than switching the pedals on and off, since there is always clean sound coming through even with the clean volume on minimum
13. I'm gigging both on my board. It really depends on the songs you're doing, as to which is more suited. If I was buying from scratch again, I would probably go for the c, as it has a wide variety of tones available. Beware though - it doesn't track well below an open a, and if you're a swift player, quick quavers and semi quavers will probably not be picked up
14. I've been gigging mine for a while now. It has kicked my old dod bass overdrive off, as it sits better in the mix at volume in my situation. It really is an awesome pedal for the money- everything from slight drive to full on grind for just short of £60? No brainer for me
15. Cool. Might check some of them out, if I can find somewhere that actually sells them in a shop!
16. Which pedal is that? Edit- just saw its the pipebomb 😉 Overall impressions pls?
17. They have them in stock at effectspowersupplies / stompbox I had a good try at the bass show, and was pretty impressed. I'm going to go back for further investigation soon Having owned a mad prof blueberry, I didn't see much similarity. To me it seemed like more of a screamer type drive
18.
Bizarrely one of the few I've not had
Fair enough mate. My dodgy memory again! 😉
19. Gene Simmons had something similar finishwise in the God gave rock an roll to you video.
20. Iirc sk8 had one for a while
21. Big +1 to the octoplus. Flippin great pedal. Lovely character to the sound. Stupidly cheap too- been seeing them on eBay for tiny amounts of cash!!
22. I actually really like my Marshall reflector. It's a great price (they can be found for around £40), and sounds really nice.
23.
I guess it's kind of like Fodera making an expensive version of a P-bass. Pick-up, volume, tone. I mean I'm sure it'd be great but that's not why you buy a Fodera? Or a P-bass, for that matter.
Many many boutique makers have been doing this with the jazz bass for a long time. In their case everyone applauds the instrument, rather than looking too closely at the copying aspect. Is the question here more about the pricing? Copying at a cheaper retail makes it a bad thing, whereas copying at a higher price makes it better?
