  1. Any of these aesthetic decisions are the same- it's an ingredient or flavouring. Me personally, I can't stand vinegar by itself, but my wife is an excellent cook, we must have 7 or 8 varieties in the kitchen and I eat it all the time. But she's very good at getting the balance right or cooking it off etc. Bass guitar shows and demo videos are like pickle fairs to me, too much of one flavour I don't like. But Forget Me Nots, a lot of Dr John stuff, Cory Wong's guy whoever, ace. Marcus Miller on Just the Two of Us- ugh.
  2. More Floyd. I must be in the minority but floyd's not my favourite examples of his playing, although its done very well. Will I get banned if I say I prefer his work with Lemon Jelly? 😆
  3. We have drifted from pubs to functions, which is better money, nicer venues and more space typically (not always) I don't miss setting up next to the toilet door or pool table. But I do miss being able being able to set up in the evening, playing what would now feel like straight away and get out straightaway. Functions can be a real bind setting up before lunch, playing at 9:30 then waiting for the 'disco' to finish at 1 or 2 in the morning.
  4. Seems ironic that such a seminal session guy who's contributed so many unique parts to compositions and just been paid the session fee and performing royalties if he's lucky gets busted on a copyright issue. I wonder how much he got paid by Massive Attack's record company for 'Safe From Harm', basically all centred around his Stratus bassline? If indeed he got composer royalties for that?
  5. Not a fan of these PC Disney songs but the video came on whilst i was distracted. Firstly, gulf colours and a ding wall is a match made in Canadian heaven and secondly, the little sliding tenth! What a simple trick and so effective. Nicked and noted, thank you Lee!
  6. True! And I sold a Baja tele with bare knuckles, man I regret that.
  7. I was thinking I'd be the odd one out with a Patrick Eggle but I've counted 5 do far. Who knew?
  8. My psychiatrist, my lawyer and my priest have all encouraged me to repress as much of the experience as possible.....
  9. I just wanted to be in a band, this was late 80s early 90s. My parents were musical and musicians were talked about as royalty. I’d fallen in love with my dad’s record collection and he played guitar and bass, but didn’t own a bass at the time. So knowing a bit about musicians I thought a) I can’t sing b) I can’t move my fingers really fast, lead guitar is out (80s remember!) c) enforced keyboard lessons hadn’t worked. d) rhythm guitar just says crap lead guitarist e) I’m not mental- can’t be the drummer. So bass it was. I didn’t give any thought about what role the bass plays until my band made a demo, which my dad gave to a friend of his who had worked on the board at Atlantic in the 60s. He gave me a proper slating, clueless was one of the terms, so have spent the rest of my life trying to work out what it is I should be doing!
  10. 01 Ever played a gig sitting down? yes 02 Ever gigged on a different instrument? Yes, I did my music degree playing the trumpet. 03 Ever shared a stage with a musical hero of yours? Unfortunately not. 04 Any fan ever had a tatoo of your band's logo? No. 05 Ever signed an autograph in a dressing room? No. 06 Ever cried on stage? Yes, playing for Les Mis, the founder of the company had terminal cancer and during Bring Him Home I looked up at the MD who was blubbing his eyes out. As he’s the singer in my function band I couldn’t help it, welled right up myself. 07 Ever worn a hat on stage? All the time. 08 Ever gigged with a band you hadn't met before the gig? Many times. 09 Ever been in a relationship with a fellow band member? Yes. 10 Ever played in different bands on the same day? Yes. 11 Ever had anything thrown at you while playing? Yes, the drummer’a mum’s knickers. 12 Ever crashed on the way to the gig? Yes, my fault too. 13 Ever left a band over the choice of set list? No. 14 Ever slept in the venue despite it not being a hotel? No, but in the van plenty of times. 15 Ever been supported by a band clearly better than you? Yes. 16 Ever played a gig suffering from some debilitating medical condition? No. 17 Ever been in a band where the guitarist was your favourite bandmate? Yes, my brother. 18 Ever played in the grounds of a stately home? Yes. 19 Ever injured yourself on stage? Yes, the cap on the pickup selecter on my Tele had come off and I made a kebab of my thumb on it. 20 Ever been told that your bass isn't loud enough? Yes.
  11. Sounds great! What’s the power amp please? And pictures, or it didn’t happen!
  12. That's what promoted me to post really, my home recording set up is more sophisticated than his! It’s quite an aggressive tone to my ears, but there’s a few billion radio plays/ record sales/ audience members between us so what do I know?!😆
  13. He's got quite a raw basic tone, amazing what actually works in context.
  14. If you remember Through The Keyhole George Martin ‘pretended’ to live at AIR!
  15. We're all in Pino's shadow, well he is so tall! 🤣
  16. Good call, I was trying to remember what it was called. The scene at the school with students with speech impediments had me in tears. It was that emotional intelligence which elevated his musicianship, great artist.
  17. Thank you. Ruby red metallic. Constantly changes shade depending on the lights, she's a keeper!
  18. Ok I'll bite. G&L LB100, I love the slightly smaller body size, and this one has the binding which looks great in the flesh.
  19. Mainly cabs that look like a cheap 80s disco. The specs may be fantastic but if the speaker is visible through the metal grill because the board it’s mounted to is a different colour I’m out.
  20. First saw Mr Sklar playing for Phil Collins at Knebworth 90, I was 13. I thought he was incredible. Fast forward a few years and I was doing a session for a Dutch guitarist, who casually mentioned the bass player on his previous album was Lee Sklar. No pressure then!
  21. I was about to say treat yourself to the lovely example for sale on here..... But you're the one selling it 🤦‍♂️
