1. I notice the Lakland flats have quite a few fans on here, where do you buy them from? If direct from Lakland is it an easy process re. customs/exchange rate etc? cheers.
2.
What gauge are your Status Hotwires? They´re HotWire Flats right?
sorry only just read this.....yeah flats, 40-60-80-100
3.
As far as I'm aware you only need to play the right notes at the right time to be a useful musician. I'd hardly say that Roger Waters failed to do that! Just because he's not a natural bassplayer doesn't make him poor or bad at it, it just means that he lacks a certain showmanship on it. But imagine if Entwistle ended up playing for Pink Floyd! How different they would have been! Truckstop Ps, I also like U2 and I think that Adam Clayton is a great pop bassist. The rhythm in 'Still Haven't Found...' makes that song and, live, his playing really adds so much meat to the songs. Also, I never heard him make a mistake, and I've seen U2 six times!
I actually think this comment is bang on.
4. I have briefly played one (about 20 mins) and was impressed, infact would have prob bought it if I didn't already have enough basses or had more money. Love the colour but agree about the vintage tint & no blocks comment above, IMO.
5. Hi Simon, Heres mine, for the money it's excellent, as good a fit and finish as any other Fender i've played, as for the sound, think more of a bigger jazz sound and the front pickup is similar to a precision IMO. Great for rock.
6. my vintage icon.....love it
7. If it was sent 'Special Delivery' it would have had a time limit ie. 24h /48h etc. If it didn't arrive at the destination within that time, you probably could have claimed for it being 'lost' after 15 working days.
8.
I hate sky,so I have to do without.May get friend to record it when it's repeated
Anyone know off hand when it is repeated? cheers
9.
Early Quo - unbeatable. My old band covered Big Fat Mama on our first album - have a listen: That's me in the glasses.
COOL!! my very fave Quo song.........your the one with????
10. Big Fat Mama, Oh Baby, Softer Ride, Backwater.....my faves..oh and Ma Kelly's/Dog of two Head..classics
11. I play in a similar type of band, I use a CV precision with Status flats, through either an Ashdown 15w combo or a Roland cb100 combo depending on size and volume needed, I'm happy with the sound.HTH.
12.
I've had & sold a MiM P fretless, it was good enough but not inspiring. Soon after I sold it I developed a need (GAS) for another fretless & spent a long time looking & thinking. I contemplated a new 2012 USA standard Jazz & would vertainly have gone for it if it wasn't for the lack of colour choice - 3TS or Black. It's been about a year since & I just got offered a bargain basement price Vintage Icon series Jaco fretless. All I've done is clean it up, Lemon oiled the fingerboard & fitted TI Jazz Flats. It has really impressed me, all the mwaaah & tones I imagined at the fraction of the price of a Fender. All of the hardware is Wilkinson, good quality stuff & no problems with the pick ups or electrics, no point in upgrading anything, it's all good, yes I'd say as good as Fender. The 'reliced' or roadworn imitation Jaco doesn't bother me, it's a bit rough IMO, but it's a budget bass! If you want to pay £2,600ish for a Fender signature Jaco I expect the finish is a lot better I gave a lot of thought to the Squire FL Jazz & TBH the one thing that really put me off is the Ebanol (compressed paper & resin) fingerboard, at least the Vintage is real Rosewood, you can sand it, oil it, varnish/epoxy it if required, you can't do that with the Squire. I also don't rate the pick ups or electrics, so you could easily spend a lot upgrading them. I would certainly recommend the Vintage from personal experience, leaving a nice bit of change out of your budget. Cheerz, John
+1, having owned a VMJ fretless before the Vintage Icon, I put a black scratchplate on my Icon.
13. I had this problem once on a used neck I bought, exact same as yours, the problem was, the truss rod anchor was starting to break so it would straighten then go back to high action, I would tighten it again and same thing, eventually the anchor snapped. It is possible to repair a snapped rod anchor, quite a bit of info if you google it. HTH
14. Supported Whitesnake (I think) in the late 70's, good band. Makes me feel old!
15.
The perfect Xmas present for yourself - put the other crap you get, straight onto eBay
......LOL nice bass, good price
16.
I use 40-100 Status Hotwire Flats. Nice low-medium tension, I have no probs switching basses with these on, tension wise.
so do I, don't even have to touch the rod going from D'addario XLs
17. try ebay, or a motorcycle custom website.
18. Well done that man...I have 2 CV precisions, one black/maple and one red/Rosewood, I think there great also.
19. Also you'd probably be able to get a used Yamaha RBX170 or a Ibanez GSR200 for around a £100, both good basses.
20. +1 on the above advice; i've seen in Cash Converters in the last 3 months a, Vintage Jazz copy £70, a Vintage P copy for £80 and a Squier P for £95 all tidy basses and you'd probably get most (if not all) of your cash back if you sold it on.
