1. not sure what section to post this in, so if i'm in wrong one sorry; I want to try Status hotwire flats on a Precision, do I need medium scale or long scale, wasn't sure as some Stutus's are probably 35'' scale. Also if anyone has used these strings on a P that can answer the question, what in your opinion is your preference between 40 - 100 and 45 - 105 sets? thanks for any help.
2. I've had the Squier fretless, but now have one of these:) http://www.dv247.com/guitars/vintage-icon-vj96-bass-guitar-distressed-sunset-sunburst--37370 personally I prefer the VJ96 from owning both basses.
3. glad to help, i'd saved the link, you never know when you might need the info.

5. IMO lots of good advice and some not so good advice:) when I bought my Squier CV precision (Matt Freeman model), I tried it against an American Fender P at £800 and a Mexican one at about £500. The Squier CV at £345 was a lot better than the Mexican one and very close to the USA one, the shop owner who is a semi pro bass player also tried the 3 into the same amp and he said something like this '' obviously i'd love to sell you the USA P (I had enough money at the time) but the Squier CV is an absolute steal at the price'' saved £450 and got a really good P bass. That Peavey combo for £20 is a bargain, you could use it for 12 months and still get your money back
6. Heres one I had, this black one I did with a standard USA fit plate, just required a little sanding here and there on the neck pocket and a couple of mm cutting from control plate area, about 10 minutes work. Re the bridge, Gotoh 201 works brilliantly as does a bridge sold on eBay (search, 'hard tail bass bridge') about half the price of a Gotoh. HTH.
7. hi. is there any guitar shops within walking distance of New St station please?
8.
Bugger. Missed it again!
Me too, is it on again any time soon?
9.
Played the Mod player Jazz today....very impressed, sound and build quality were excellent.....infact I put first dibs on the shops first sunburst one when it arrives, hopefully in the next few days. Pretty hot pickups and punchy tone.
........Picked it up this morning, have only played it in the shop but Very impressed, beautifully made, being Made in China doesn't bother me, I remember when they laughed at Jap stuff inc Fenders. If you had a few mint Jap Fenders under your bed you'd certainly have the last laugh.....
10. I was 11 then, TOTP was a MUST watch for a young music fan, Bowie, Argent, The Sweet, Slade, Alice Cooper, Ram Jam, Geordie, Chicory Tip, Jo Jo Gunne, Edgar Winter, Status Quo....America, Horse with no name, now there's a good song. Happy memories.
11. have read that those dowels you get with plat pak furniture or new kitchin units are very good for this job with a little PVA glue.
12. Hi there, has anybody changed the scratchplate on their Squier VM Precision? If so is there a direct fit replacement out there, I believe the USA plates fit directly on the CV P so is there one that fits the VM P? Cheers.
13.
Okay, let's say I buy a Jazz Deluxe mail order. will there be a thumb rest in the box of will it be already fitted, That goes for the huge pieces of hardware too. Thanks...
would think they would be already fitted... IMO, when you remove the 'tug bar' the holes arn't that noticable especially on darker colour scratchplates.
14. The Jazz I played is £399 and a Squier Matt Freeman Precision is now around £370 so I don't think the price is bad with a Fender logo. For some reason the Blacktops are over £500 and rhe Modern player's seem to be £400?

Nick
17. Dave, says he can't remember which seller, but he's pretty sure it was the same size as a gen Fender one. There are plenty for sale on the bay with dimensional pictures, so a quick compare with a ruler on yours should tell you for definate. There was a post on talkbass, (just can't find it at the mo) of a guy modding a cv jazz, that had a lot of info (he fit a black one) could have been something like; 'perfect fitting parts for Squiers'. hope this helps. Nick.
