1. I've got a set of Elixir 45-105 not that old and they rattle on E & A same as yours but not open, confused? yes!
2. ....just noticed, you've only joined tonite, so welcome to the forum, bigal.
3. I had until recently a Jap hardpuncher and IMHO it was as good as a good Fender precision, I sold it as I had too many basses and had to move on a bass. My local store had some cheaper (£250) Tokai jazzes about 9 months ago and their opinion was that some were good, some not so good, so the bad ones were sent back. I was talking to the shop owner a couple of weeks ago and he said he'd got in a consignment of £250 Tokai Strats and Tele's and he told me they were very, very good and a steel at the money. So I would think with a good trial, a good £250 hardpuncher shouldn't be hard to find. Nick.

5. I had one of those only fretted, mine was exactly the same except the pickups were a cream colour. I sold it to a mate to buy my Antigua burst USA jazz. Got £250 for the Westone, paid £295 (s/h) for the as new jazz, oh happy days! wish i'd hung on to them, the two of them now would be worth serious money, have a feeling my mate may still have the Westone, although I ain't seen him for 5 or 6 years.
6.
It is Shine On and yes they are based in the North East Cheers Dave
Dave, you are playing in my town on Nov 12th, will try to put the word about. Will try to put a flyer in the local newsagent because the more people turn up the more chance of rock gigs in our town. The last time I saw your band was about a year ago, was that before you joined? Love floyd tributes me, can't get enough. cheers Nick
7.
Dayum, I really like that green!
so do I.
8.
Im just putting one together as I have joined a Floyd tribute. Never really rated Waters until I was learning the sets. Not technically challenging but difficult arrangements with tasty variations and like you say great song writer.
.....whats the band called? unfortunately having never seen Floyd, 'tributes' are the only way now, i've seen, Australian PF, Pulse, Off the Wall, & Shine On 4 or 5 times each, aren't Shine On bassed in the north east? Waters is so much more than his bass ability, IMHO he does what is necessary with the bass.
9.
I like waters to,quite a dark man i feel.I always get the impression he has always been angry at the for being robbed of a father. Who could blame him,a superb song writer.
+1,000,000
10. Probably has been through a few, just seems odd to have the exact same colour combo, it's almost like his signature colour. Geddy Lee is almost always pictured with the black jazz but i've also seen him with plenty of other colours. I like Roger Waters, I think he's cool, I just wondered if he'd ever used a different make or colour combo?...... Nick.
11. Apart from a few very early photos of Roger playing a Ricky and a sunburst precision (Fender?) the only bass i've seen him play for the last 30+ years is his Fender black/black/maple precision. Is this the same bass? has anybody actually seen him play any other bass? if it is the same one, it looks to be in remarkably good condition. Any thoughts, cheers, Nick.
12.
If you used paypal to pay for the bass and have NOT yet left feedback, then paypal won't release the money to him until you do. Look to paypal to help you out. Even though they are owned/part of ebay.
Is ths true? I've sold stuff on ebay and if a buyer couldn't be bothered leaving feedback I still got the paypal money (I think).
13. 1980, local church hall, Roadhouse Blues by the Doors, although we did Quo's version from the Piledriver album. No name precision copy through a Vox 50w valve head and a (1 x 18? I think) cab.
14. Not a critisism, just an observation but, I always get more turned on to a bass when it's photographed the right way up, ie top horn to top of photo and so on........just my opinion, have a free bump, Martin.........NJ
15.
who were they??
It’s a bit of a dumb one this, but, a couple of friends asked me to a rock covers band gig, when we turned up, unbeknown to us the rock band had cancelled a few days earlier. The jazz funk band were the short notice replacement, we watched their first set and ok it was to, but we didn’t stay for the second set as my buddies were expecting a rock band. As far as I know they played original material but there were a couple of less commercial Simply Red numbers in there, unfortunately I can’t remember their name. Bass sound was good though.
16. I don't know much about funk but, I saw a funk jazz band a couple of months ago,..... you know you just have to know what gear the bass player is using, well he was using a G&L L2000 (USA I think) and a markbass stack. The only way to describe the sound was 'TRUELY AWESOME'. I was blown away!!
17.
Yeah, i know, some excellent advice, support & very kind & generous offers of help on this forum. Just posting here, and getting the feedback, has cheered me up. Thanks Funnilly enough. I had planned, in the week, to get a Squier VMJ fretless today, as a 2nd bass, and a 1st to learn fretless on. I know that this would not be a good replacement gigging bass, but i could practice the set with it in the meantime & keep my fingers crossed for my L2000 to be fixed & back with me before the gig, or if push comes to shove, borrow a fretted bass off of some kind soul.
Yeah, keep your chin up, this is sorta one big family, there is something about bass that so good (even songs that are cr*p are enjoyable if they have a good bass groove)....... in a crisis we are all with you. Best of luck with the L2000 and by the way if you buy a VMJ fretless you'll not regret it! NJ
18. After reading through all the posts, my sympathy is with you, although I think it could have been a whole lot worse (snapped in half, totally crushed etc) There is some excellent expert advice for you and if it does have to go in for luthier repair and you have gigs coming up then I would in the short term do one of three things, 1, borrow a bass to use as has been offered, 2, rent a bass, or 3, buy another cheepish decent bass that you could easily sell on after your main bass is repaired. Obviously basses that are desirable second hand would mean you'll recoup most of your money back. Off the top of my head, Squier affinity precision or jazz, Yamaha BB414 or Ibanez GSR200 would be good and a second hand one would be even better, there are many decent basses on this forum for £100 or under. Good luck. NJ
19.
Definitely shim the neck. Very easy to do and there is a great sticky showing how to do it in the repairs forum.
+1
20.
d'you think it might fit a mex Classic 70's jazz? Joe
not sure? think the VMJ was bassed on 70's design, but it would really be pot luck. IF you wanted to take a chance & it didn't fit, at least you know what it does fit to sell it on, sorry I can't give you a more precise answer. cheers, Nick
21. I bought this plate for a project and as often happens it didn't fit, so I had a look to see what it did fit in order to sell it on. What I found was it was very close to fitting the Squier vintage modified fretless, so a little touch round the neck pocket and it fit perfectly. I am not sure if it would also fit the VMJazz fretted but I would say it's possible as these seem to be the same pickup position as the fretless. So if you fancy modifying your Squier fretless to make it less Jaco like then this is for you. As you can see it has been placed on the bass and not screwed down. Will sell for a tenner inc post, thanks.
22. I have a fairly recent Made in Japan Tokai P, I have not had Fender P's but have had a couple of USA Jazzes and IMHO the Tokai is as well made and sounds just as good as a freinds USA P. Right up there with good Fenders.
23. I follow this thread and threads like it about Retrovibes with interest, one thing i've noticed, lot's of potential buyers thinking and looking, asking a few questions, very few pulling the trigger! It's almost as if, it just must be too good to be true, and often in life it usually is? ....me, i'm curious and a little bit cautious, maybe someone can shed more light on these fine looking basses?...Nick.
24. Hi all, does anyone know if the scratchplate from the fretted VMJ will go on the fretless VMJ squier, in other words are the neck pocket-pick up-control plate dimensions the same on both models? Also if a scratchplate were to be bought off eBay etc. what model of Fender (or other) is the same size as the VMJ squier(s)? Any help or experience appreciated, Nick.
